Getting closer...

I am not directly above the sheath, nor am I level, so it looks a bit off. When you add in the shape of the sheath, how it retains the blade grind shape on it, the paper, she doesn't sit level too well. Aside from a bit of tweaking with the holes, I am pretty close to done here.

Can't wait to see the finished product and how it works out. Interested!!

Funny side note: I had redone the entire thing from the ground up with new measurements to make sure I was getting things as exact as possible, and when I got done I figured I would print the blueprint and then have to spend a few minutes printing it at different sizes until I got the right size so I could check it against the sheath. The program had the option to print at the true scale, and I was really excited, so I printed it.

That one hastily got cut out, and then held against the sheath to check for size, and everything was off. I was about two minutes from abandoning this entirely, when I got to thinking I had printed it from Adobe Reader, and that always likes to resize stuff. Got that unchecked and it was pretty darn good. I think there are two holes that need to be moved a couple of millimeters and it should be good to go. Now to see if I can manage to check this out at work without someone walking in and wondering why I have a giant knife on my desk.

Sign me up, I'll beta this thing for you and if I like it, I'll pay for it, if I don't, you'll just have to give it to me:D

Naw, seriously, I want one when you get done, who knows, this may turn into something.

That's looking really good Derek, what depth are you thinking for the inside of it?

Depth is over half an inch. (My main concern was making sure it would fit the "bunker" firesteel that is like half an inch thick. The lid and the body take up a lot of thickness unfortunately, and the base sits up off the sheath from sheath to inside bottom by 6 mm or so simply to fit right. Give me a bit and I will get some dimensions sorted out. (They might be a bit wonky, I switched from inches to mm to inches back to mm in the process of making it. I have a hard time thinking in imperial after using metric so much the last few years.)

As far as a Remora, what are the dimensions? Let me know and I can check to see if it will fit.

Depth though isn't a real big issue, I can make the box taller with the click of a button. Anyways, let me get some pics with dimensions sorted. Back in a flash!

Mist, looking at your pics from your gear pouch, I would say the remora should fit no problem. Once I get the measurements done today I will send you guys that are interested a PDF with the blueprint on it that you can print to check sizes of things and whatnot.

Nice going Derek! This project is really coming along! Keep it up, you've really got my interest on this one...

Okay, I think it fits pretty good. Print this out, cut out the thing, punch holes in the ones with the two circles, and see if it fits for you. When you go to print make sure to change page scaling to None. Let me know if it works.

A picture is worth a thousand words...but I have to get all my pics from today uploaded on the computer first...back in a few.

**edit** Looking at your dimensions it will easily fit without the sheath and maybe even with it.

hey what program are you using/ and is it easy to use/ (i have ZERO drawing experience)

I am currently using SolidWorks 2009. I think it is easy, but it wasn't at first. Heck, I had a hard time with sketchup too. Mostly it is learning what all the little buttons do I think that throws me off. I started teaching myself over a year ago though for something that required a butt load of curves and ended up being a huge learning experience. You interested in getting into 3D modeling?

Has anyone printed and done a test fit with the pdf I posted? I am holding off on the ordering until I get the opinion of a couple others and would really appreciate the feedback.

Alright, my impatience got the better of me. Ordered the bottom (no point in ordering the top until I make sure it fits right) and it should be here in about two weeks. It has to come from the Netherlands, but they usually get it here fairly quick. I extended the main part of the box by a few mm to compensate for the lid and whatnot. Pics when it gets here.

Work begins on the box for the backside...

3D printed?

Aye, in their WSF material.

are there not cheaper places for turnaround in the USA?

worked at SW for about 2 months on their web portals. fun. those printers are rad.

the METAL printers that are out now, more rad.

Possibly. Never really looked since I have had such good service out of these guys. Had something mess up one time and they shipped me a replacement no questions asked for no money, and gave me a refund. They may not be US, but they are stand up guys, and they do good work. As far as faster, I have no idea. Shapeways has never taken longer without previous notification, and generally stuff gets out much quicker. Kinda like on Amazon how it says a week but takes two days.

And yes, the metal printers are indeed awesome. Here is something I had made that they printed for me in metal.
