• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

What do you toss in your pocket when taking a short hike

My SAK Tinker never leaves my pocket.

My EDC consists of

Leatherman Surge
Buck 110
River Rock AAA LED light
Pocket Screwdriver
Lighter or Permanent Match
BC Powder

I also have started keeping my MULE in the truck loaded as a BOB. Check the pics.

I keep the same things that are in my pocket the whole day. A custom SAK Explorer, a Photon Proton light, a mini bic, and a full speed strip of .38 in my left pocket, while a S&W 340SC and Griptillian ride in my right.

Right front pocket always has my BM Vex, card wallet, and USB thumb drive. Left front pocket always has my trusty Wenger Handyman, a Mini-Bic, and a Zebra pen (either one of the older telescopic models, or a compact F-301, sometimes wrapped in paracord). If I have my camera with me, which I probably will if I'm out for a walk/day hike, I'll have granola bars, a notepad, an MP3 player, and my cellphone in my camera bag. I'll probably have a bandanna either in a pocket or on my head as well.

I always keep an altoids tin psk in my right front pocket. It has everything I could need to live for a little while as long as I'm resourceful. I always have my SOG Powerlock on my belt, and whichever knife I'm carrying for the day on my right front pocket.

On day hikes I take my Camelbak Mule with water and I take off the sleeping bag of course.

My trusty Buck 110,my Vic Trekker and my Vic Classic SD.I love the 110 so much, but find the saw of the Trekker very useful.Maybe a 110 and one of those old Vic GAK's would be a great combo! :)

I EDC a Camillus that is over 60 years old and saw action in WWII. Still tight and have cleaned it up since the photos were taken.

I am going to break it down into two categories....

ABSOLUTELY everyday (keep in mind I work in a government closed area, so lots of things are no-no's....cell phones for instance):

leatherman micra
INOVA microlight in white

On a Day Hike:
Inside of my Maxpedition Fatboy is...
Leatherman Wave
2 INOVA microlights in white
2 quart sized ziploc bags
1 gallon ziploc bag
2 emergency plastic ponchos
1 space blanket
1 small compass
1 ballpoint pen
1 flint and magnesium bar
25' of 550 cord
Cell phone
3-4 Balance bars
2 quarts of water
Optional Items:
Glock 26 with spare magazines
SRKW Howling Rat

....and there is tons of room left over....

Some days, a Busse Active Duty or Game Warden.

Others ... one of any number of Kershaws and Spydercos. Most recently, probably a little Blur.

Most of the time, I will be carrying my Vintage Knives Model 1902 Moose pocketknife. It's heavy-duty enough to handle the chores I will need for a cutting instrument, and the two blades work great for anything needing cutting! And I'm sort of a "traditionalist" so it forges a link between me and the folks who did this in the past. Along with that, I may be carrying a match case with matches (if weather and fire regulations permit!). Also some minor first aid items. What I have in my pack is in addition to this, if it's a longer dayhike, and not just a short one.
