What do you use for yard work

Last weekend a knife like this by Ray Kirk (ABS MS) was used to cut ivy vines that have invaded my back yard and fence.
For those who have not tried the steel. Forged 52100 makes for a great knife in my experience.

What's that under the paracord wrap?

Benchmade Full Size Griptilian as my pocket knife when working in the yard. I use the right tool for the job for everything else. The pocket knife just takes care of the massive palo verde beetles here in phoenix.

Corona anvil ratcheting pruning shears. Easy to sharpen and will cut through a 3/4" branch with ease.

I use either my Spyderco Military or Tenacious, depending on the task.

Working in the garden, an Opinel, the regular size model, or any number of slipjoints. Usually either my old Disston machete, or my ESEE lite machete all over the property. GB hand axe, Snow and Nealy Hudson Bay and Estwing camping axe get a good amount of work done (we took down an old pine tree, could use a chainsaw, but what's the fun in that?).

I usually carry my BM Marlowe balisong at home, but just to flip. The work knife is my Gossman UNK (used to be my PSK, but that ended up as a gift).

Reminds me, pruning in the orchard is overdue (if you can call about 8 trees an orchard ;)).

This is an well timed post. I have a bunch of vines that I want to trim in my back yard (in Minnesota) and a tree that is about 15' tall (about 2.5-3 " diameter) that is growing where it shouldn't be growing. I don't have a chain saw or axe so I went on the hunt for a big fixed blade that could be used for those chores and camp work. I traded for a BK9 that should get here tomorrow and I hope to put it through it's paces on saturday.

I have a few folder that make it into the yard. BM 730CFHS, Cold Steel CV Twistmaster Tanto 5", Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Composite

I use a little bushcraft knife I made about a year ago. It used to be a machete that I bought from a buddy. He bought it in Mexico when we were teenagers, and I bought it off of him a while later. About a year and a half ago I broke the plastic handle on it while doing some yard work. Thats when I decided to make it into a knife. How fitting for this thread!
Here are a few pics of my first REAL, usable knife. Not real pretty but it does the job rather well.

I use various machetes, a hori hori, a few different shovels, pick mattock, potato hook, Estwing Rigger's Axe, several hammers, and an American scythe. :D

Your tree is a is Parkinsonia aculeata (Jerusalem thorn) and it attracts that palo verde borer beetle you killed. More tha likely there's more beetles or grubs munching on the roots far below the soil surface. I would treat it with Merit

I've been using this Ti Kershaw, Junkyard Dog. I have a lot of over-grown bushes and thorns to slice off and it does a great job. If I have anything, too big I get the axe and if that's not good enough I get the chainsaw.

usually whatever I have handy on me, but if I've got to clear out some brush or trim down some branches- kukri or junglas (happily).
