What do you use in the woods; the Silver Needle request thread and Mall Ninja's

I'd love to see more pics of that hatchet. Looks interesting.

I'm enjoying this thread. Its fun to see what preferences everybody has. Thanks for sharing.

...But deer hunting does not have the appeal any more it used to due to leases and so forth. I do not like to pay to hunt. .
Amen to that. For 30 years I hunted in and out of state, everything from squirrel to elk. Local public lands have dried up, and out of state has priced me right out of it. *sigh*

On topic: I never hike more than a days travel from the truck or jeep and back, so it's just a day hike. At the most, I should have, and only had, to spend one night in the woods away from the vehicle.
In the vehicle I carry whatever is comfortably needed for any emergency (that I can think of). On the hike, whether it's a hunt or not, among other things, I carry a quality ~3" folding/locking knife, a tough one.

You are right, if you don't have a bic and it is raining, it is quite the chore to start a fire!! I go out tracking a lot. Usually bring a machete, sometimes a roughly 5" 3V fixed blade somewhere, and a folder. If I stay a couple nights in the woods and know I am going to be chopping I will bring a small hatchet, just a cheapo. Hands down, my machete and my folders get the most use in any of my home or woods tasks. I guess they are one in the same, cause the farm has woods.

You got a great looking collection of tools!! It is good they are getting used, that's what they're made for!

Pics guys. Post some pics! Every scratch and dent, every blood stain, every modification in your gear tells a story.

In my little rural part of New England there isn't a tract of land I can't crawl out of with two broken legs and one arm in 72 hours. [emoji17]

So my knife needs are fairly minimal. I normally just carry this one.

I have one 'hawk, a hatchet, and a folding saw that I sometimes play with on private land. But that F1 has been my outdoors knife for close to a decade.

I hope you have a chance to roam the wilderness some day. Thanks for posting the pic.
