What do you wear in the shop?

I keep it simple

Jeans, leather sneakers, cotton T-Shirt, pretty much all year round. if it's cold I throw on a hoodie.

no synthetic anything in a shop, it's a bad idea.

Forging: Overalls or jeans, cotton t-shirt, add a long sleeved denim shirt and leather apron when welding, and leather work boots
Grinding: My grinder and drill press are in my garage along with my weights, so I usually do some grinding between sets when I'm working out. Normaly have on cotton shorts and t-shirt and black, high top, Chuck Taylors.

Always wear respirator and full face shield when grinding and tinted safety glasses when forging.

Just imagine the Dude from the Big Lebowski out there grinding.

I have long hair so I always wear a ski hat or a green welders cap with white polka dots.

Then I just throw some carhart overalls over whatever I'm wearing, usually pajamas. After that I put on some kind of carhart type jacket if it is cold. I wear some redneck style work boots which look great with my super mario pajamas sticking out the bottom of the carharts.

I always wear safety glasses and a respirator.

I like to wear gloves sometimes but I still can't feel my grinds (yet) even with latex ones.

Sweat pants, and T shirt. Sometimes a long sleeved work shirt. Seriously.

Depends on what I'm doing. If it involves fire, NO polyester. No Sweats, no tennis shoes (though I forget sometimes and get a quick reminder).

Cotton and leather.

I see we are all pretty much in the same ballpark. Well except for Nick but when you are the Dreamy One you can pretty much wear whatever you want I guess. ;)

These are crocs,

...and yes, the little holes actually are designed to attract welding sparks! Gotta stop wearing them in the shop. But they are so easy to get in and out of when I need to go back into the house and don't want metal slivers all over. The One Who Must Be Obeyed would not like that. :(

Thanks for sharing guys. (And over sharing in some cases :p)

We require fire resistant clothing, safety glasses and leather boots, always in the shop. Last week Eldon was doing a little experiment and it literally exploded in his face, the only places his was not painfully burned was the area covered by his beard and glasses. There is no question he would have suffered serious damage to his eyes had he not been wearing glasses.

Wooden shoes, jeans, a cap to keep the sparks of the grinder off my head and some kind of cotton shirt.

Oh yea. I forgot the magnifier that I always have on and use to protect my eyes over my glasses when grinding as well as for file work, and other stuff. Frank

Temperature-appropriate layers and lengths, but nothing that isn't cotton or leather. Neither of those will melt and stick to my skin, but it seems that pretty much anything synthetic will.

BTW, I mostly forge, thus the emphasis of fire/melt-retardant clothes.

And hearing protection and safety glasses.

How about you? What do you wear? Feel free to elaborate if there is a special reason why.

Paddy you gotta buy my calendar to find out..............:p Want my PP addy?

Some extremes here, speed-os to blast furnace jackets

I wear shorts and sandals from April to October. Jeans and T-shirt when it's cold.

I usually wear cotton T's denim jeans and work boots, and a denim apron, if I think about it and would like to keep some of the grit and grime off of what I am wearing. I have got to find a good leather apron to replace the denim one!

Neither the denim apron, or flip flops work well when welding! Don't ask how I know!
You will be surprised how fast you can leave out of both when their is hot sparks or flame involved. Haste to get something done can and will override good judgement!

Bandanna to cover my hair. If I plan to be in there a lot I braid my hair back and really keep it covered. Long sleeve Dickies work shirt over whatever I happen to be wearing, which is usually jeans and a t-shirt. I'm still new at this and only do stock removal. By the end of the year I plan to start forging.

At night just Boxers

I ware my jeans that don’t have holes in them. My wife doesn’t like it but I don’t like hot things going down my pant legs, or starting on fire, T-shirt and shoes. When it is cold I wear a jacket.

Rick you crack me up.
