What Do You WISH Survive! Offered?

I don't foresee any issues with how I would put it to use either, I'm on board with any FFG offerings. And after all this is the WISH thread

I don't believe its the majority that Guy is worried about how they would use it either. I think its the handful of stupidity that wants to buy it just to see how far they can take it till it breaks. I see why he doesn't want to do grinds like the scandi or the ffg when he backs every knife for the rest of his life.

That said I still wouldn't mind seeing them because yes I know the limits I would take them. I wouldn't consider it abusive. I'm super stoked to see the 4.5 and hopefully he can prefect these grinds and his magnificent skills to out do the stupidity and over come ignorance. But we can only ever go as far as the steel will take us.

Ffg 4.5 = kitchen knife.

I for one love the saber grinds. They fit Guys design philosophy, which is the best balance of durability and usability. I think the 4.5 is going to be a slicey mofo!

I agree Riz. I think the saber grind is ideal. I would still get a scandi if it was offered.

And that 4.5 is gonna be super slicey!!

I have a 4.5 ordered. Will be my first Survive! I am excited to see it and use it... My 3v knife currently is a Nathan the Machinist, and it's awesome. He hardens his to 64, and the edge holding is absolutely amazing. It's our white tail and elk dressing knife.

Bumping this thread to keep at bay my anticipation for the new releases.

...Or a slimmer full flat grind on either 3", 3.5" or 4" blade...

I know S!K and a number of other companies are geared toward hard use, and I really respect that Guy often brings his knives down to <0.030 behind the edge, some of mine have even been to 0.020. But for FFG and lower than 0.020", we are talking about a blade designed for somewhat gentler use, an EDC blade or kitchen knife, something the user is responsible for using appropriately...

Here is a knife from maker Tim Johnson of Blackstone K&T, his username here is timos-. This knife is ~0.10" stock thickness down to ~0.015" behind the edge, slightly hollow / almost flat grind AEB-l. This is my wife's knife - she uses it mainly in the kitchen but it hits the garden once in a while as well. It could handle rougher use, but i would never treat it like I do my S!K or Swamp Rat knives (no throwing this one ;) ). 3.5" blade. I'll compare it to my GSO-3.5 when it arrives

The maker's section here at BF is replete with awesome pieces of functional art, hard use and gentle use and everything in between, and you might be surprised at how inexpensive some can be. If you haven't checked it out, I encourage you to give it a perusal while biding time for your pre-order or pre-sale or other S! knife to arrive :D http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/754-For-Sale-Fixed-Blades

NorthernArcher, I'd encourage you to look at the soon(ish) to be released 4.7, which is the knife they replaced the 5 with. However if you had your heart set on a 5 i know the guys here will help keep an eye out for you and you could also check out the facebook fan page! Happy hunting.
Thanks.
I did eventually find a GSO 5 here on the forum. It should be arriving soon, and the anticipation is killing me! I can hardly wait to hit the woods with my new S!K :-)

something like what chiral is describing in the 7 inch variety would be great. You could use it in place of a chef's knife and take it with you on your next outdoor adventure as well.

A necker that was a skinner, similar to a bm hidden canyon but made the survive way.
A high grind scandi in 5/32 or 3/16th stock with a 4 or 5 inch spearpoint kephart style blade.
A 3v hudson bay hatchet/small axe head.

Same day order fulfillment!!! I want my knives NOW!!!

:)

All kidding aside, I think it would be cool for them to do a few knives in desert ironwood or osage. I totally get the reason all the scales are synthetic and have no complaints with what is currently being offered. However, I really like the uniqueness of a wood handle.

edit to add - Shadetree burlap (as mentioned above) would also be really cool.

Also, Survive! Machete. Guy, say that out loud. It sounds nice, doesn't it. Come on, Guy, say it again. Get Ellie to say it too, You really want to build one now, don't you? Say it a third time, now a fourth. Keep on saying it until you are 100% sure that you want to add it to your product offering. Survive! machete. IT IS THE PRODUCT THAT YOU REALLY NEED TO ADD TO THE LINEUP.

Lol. NC. I love it. You got me saying it now I wanna go build one. I don't think anyone would want it. I love the idea of a S! machete.

Wood scales.

Been there, done that. Those things break. We did around 10 ironwood handles. One broke during production, two came in as warranty returns. If we weren't trying to make hard use, reliable, beat the hell out of it knives, we would be all over the wood options. They are pretty.

With the Monday releases it should be 2 or 3 day order fulfillment. As we get the SK Series ramped up they will be same or next day fulfillment.

Machete is on paper.
