What does 'X X X X' signify on a blade?

I got my 'grippy' black G10 JYDII 1725CB for Christmas yesterday - very impressed. My wife got her brother to 'buy it now' from one of the evil-bay ones I was 'watching' without my knowing. I bid on another one, my el-cheapo being gone and not knowing I ever would see one otherwise. It was listed as "Brand New Kershaw Junk Yard Dog Composite 1725CB". The photo displays a grey textured, a la the SS JYDII sides, pattern G10. I just noted the blade picture - under The 'Galyean Design' is a row of four X's. I thought it might signify a new version - but now I wonder if I've been scammed - and it's a factory reject (The sellor is in Eugene, OR I found out!). My current 1725CB doesn't have those X's.The description was 'New', too. No mention of the bag or box like those included with my Christmas present, either. The package was mailed Monday - and was still in Portland Wednesday. Must be the weather. The kicker - I paid more than my wife did!

So - what does the 'X X X X' signify??

Thanks!

Hmmm, I've never seen that on any of the Kershaw Knives I've owned or looked at. I'll see if I can dig up an answer somewhere and get back to you. Hopefully it wasn't a scam!

EDIT: I just found several sites that indicate that these "XXXX" marks are indications to let the factory know that these are second's. So you didn't get scammed, you just have a factory second.

Nice. Is a 'Blem' covered under warranty? I wonder, since no mention of the bag or box was made just how it will be delivered. I guess going the 'cheap route' has it's rewards - 'Caveat Emptor', indeed. Well, it was advertised as 'new' - not a reject, blem, return, rework, or second. It wasn't a 'total' scam - but I was mislead, nonetheless. I've always given positive feedback - that may change. First, it's got to get here.

Is the grey and patterned G10 1725CB new? as I said, my black G10 1725CB is textured with no pattern. Thanks!

No warranty aside from free parts if they break, like losing the clip or a screw (you do the work not Kershaw).

Dont worry, the factory seconds I have I cant even figure out why they didnt pass QC, they look and work great.

The x's do indicate that it is a blem and blems do not carry factory warranty , but they will still send you some small parts if needed. I am very curious as to who the seller is , because my dad and I sell on ebay out of Eugene, didn't know I had competition. We don't have any JYD's and we disclose very openly the blem thing and no warranty is also discussed.

I found the completed auction and it does not state that it is a factory second anyplace that I can see. Not sure if it was done on purpose , but still not the right way to do things. It should always be disclosed to the buyer so that they are able to decide which direction to go. I would challenge the buyer on this, because it is indeed deceptive. According to the ad you purchased a Brand new knife with no issues and Kershaw has stated by adding the x's that it does indeed have issues. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know.

Mike , I sent the seller a message through ebay and told him that he needs to disclose the info, now we'll see what kind of trouble I get from him.

I would leave him poor feedback about not disclosing the true information on the knife.

Well, maybe , he is taking a close up of the x's , but most people don't know what that means, it needs to be said and Kershaw has had in the past, a sign at the sale stating that people selling these on Ebay need to say what they are and from where they came. Actually quite basic if you aren't trying to mislead someone.

Ah, the picture may be some defense, but it's still questionable. I might give a bit lower ranking on the "accurate description" feedback instead of a zero.

Still a bit suspect.

In England it's a brand of condom. In Australia it is a brand of beer that's made in Queensland (Queenslanders can't spell beer) and promoted by a song that goes "I can feel a 4 eX coming on" - which really confuses visitors from England :D

I also emailed him about his miss leading ad. And told him that they were seconds and didn't have a factory warrenty. He replied that they weren't seconds. He also said that the xxxx just ment that they came without a box because he bought in bulk (20 per box). That was 2 weeks ago.

I bought a JYD II with the X's but it was listed as a blemished one. I got it knowing it was however in that condition. The blemish on mine has a small spot on the blade that looks like a rub mark, but other wise it's great and as new.

I would have a problem if I bought one as new and it was a blemished one. It should be disclosed if selling it. Makes a big difference to most people and the negation of the warranty could be a problem in the future.

I am thinking he is not knowing where he is buying from. Instead of questioning the seller, who may or may not have any clue as to what he is doing, I would have him question his seller.

That's what it sounds like to me, as I have heard of people buying Kershaw knives in bulk and getting 2nd's.

Regardless of who sold the blems to the seller (if in fact there even was a seller to the seller) they are blems and should be fully disclosed as such.

It would seem a little "funny" to me if all of a sudden I was offered a great deal on a big sack of Kershaws with no boxes...

So who is this guy, anyway?
