What does your Wife think about your knives

I will be able to tell you in about 10 days.....

Worst case scenario: A girlfriend of mine of a couple of years ago had once witnessed a friend trying to slit her own wrists - so how do you think my girlfriend felt about knives? Not good! Only knife she could tolerate in the house was a very dull bread-knife. It had to perform all chores in the kitchen. No fondling of the newest combat blade while watching TV in that relationship.

In my experience few women have any understanding as to why it is necessary to own in excess of 50 knifes. Or even one good folding blade. Even carrying a small folder is seen as a sign of an emerging mental disorder or last stage macho complex. Then again in my country (Denmark) we dont have much of an outdors culture anymore and anything resembling weapons is far from PC in most peoples minds. Usually I keep a low profile when it comes to my knife hobby, especially regarding women.

Had one nurse girlfriend far up in Norway who knew about knives though - only woman I ever knew who carried a hunting blade and a folding saw when going for a walk!

My wife spent the last couple days frantic because she lost her Mini AFCK at work.
MY main concern was that she kept eying MY knives and hinting that she needed a replacement.
Fortunately, someone found her knife and returned it yesterday.
*WHEW!*

I cut it, and I cut it, and it's STILL too short!

The ups man came yesterday. When I excitedly opened the box, her comment.... you guessed it...her comment...they all look alike... In this case it was a MT Socom D/A Damascus #14/50. Of course I didn't volunteer how much it cost.

. She has suggested getting a glass display case for them, for the library, this would her way of sharing in this fascination.

Since I make my living photographing knives, she does object to the few I get. After all, I get most of them by trading off my services. Then she just got a trip to the Rockies while I did the Denver show. So overall, she likes knives. Now if I could only photograph new cars!

Hmmm... I see my loving hubby hasn't responded to this post as of yet
smile.gif
Me being a "wife" myself - I do not mind his knife insanity *yet* LOL - I use to carry a Spyderco Endura but it got confiscated I guess you could say - and as far as his collecting habits - we have been through guns knives watches paintball stuff and now knives again so if it isn't knives it would be something else - At least he hasn't traded/sold the Bud Nealy I bought him YET
biggrin.gif

But as far as the shoe & purse issue - I don't carry purses and I only have 3 or 4 pairs of shoes so he couldn't use that one on me

My wife is an executive chef and loves her work knives. I showed her the excellent kitchen knives at George Tichbourne's site and let her borrow his Julienne model I own, and guess what? She now has one of his carving sets on order.

I have my own PO Box and have all shipments both custom and production come to my box if possible. Cuts down the questions!

My missus is pretty scared of the knives that I have and doesn't understand my interest in them at all. Especially considering I always manage to get minor nicks and cuts all the time! Mind you, she doesn't complain when it she needs labels cut of clothes or boxes cut open. Then it's..."Ken, your knife please". She doesn't ask if I have one clipped on anymore.....

Hmm.. well, I'm not married, but my roommates have been known to give me odd looks when they hand me my mail -- I can usually get away with it if the boxes are small, but there's just no way to hide a larger knife, like an 18" khukuri that weighs several pounds. This is inevitably followed by a chorus of, "You got ANOTHER one?!? What are you, nuts?" (To be fair, this is usually followed by, "Let me see! Let me see!")

And they _like_ knives.

In any case you guys whose wives don't like knives probably have it better than you think. If I had a boyfriend as enthusiastic about knives as I am, I'd imagine the competition would be horrible, and we would both be broke. I mean, if I married a guy who tried to claim that my new *insert your dream knife here* was actually "our" *aforementioned dream knife*... well, it could get ugly...

I know my wife would prefer I collect guns, the reason I think is that she would rather shoot me than stab me to death.

Her current plan seems to be just to nag me to death....it's working.

My wife used to complain until I started making money selling them. Last year at Blade Show West I sold one of my taticals and the customer handed my wife the money (if I ever see him again Im going to smack him around) She promptly picked up one of her favorite knives on my table ,handed me the money the customer had just handed her and said I just bought this one. I dont plan on taking her to many more shows it could break me.

She generally just humors me. As long as she can keep buying houseplants (she's only interested in the rare ones, has over 300) she doesn't complain much. My birthday is coming up, and she just asked me which knife I want.

My wife thinks it's very irresponsible of me to spend so much money on those silly things called knives. She says, "I don't see why yoour so obsessed with them, that's all you ever talk about." Well this is all very true so I've decided to get a better payig job just so I can buy more knives.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

Actually, my wife has become quite a knifeknut herself. She is also very good about getting what I want...she has paid for most of my customs...and, since I have decided to move a step or 2 up in customs, she is going to be paying for my Tim Herman knife in the next few months

Shes really very good to me.

UPDATED and REVISED

My wife use to "whine" all the time about my addiction. She doesn't anymore........

I asked her, "Would you prefer that I get a girlfriend as a hobby?" Her response, "NO!" I don't hear sh*t from her now!

I'm so happy! I have my knives and 2 girlfriends!
