New here, so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I am torn on getting a Kershaw Premium Skyline or a Spyderco Endura4. This is going to be my first knife, so I am looking for a good-ish edc knife for the best bang for buck.

Any other suggestions are kindly appreciated. Thank you.

Ooo, tough choice.

These knives are not very comparable. The have different sizes, steel, locks, grinds and prices.

Lock back vs liner comes to preferences.

I love lock backs, but a liner lock has a smoother action and is more convenient for most people. The blade retention for a lock back is better and I prefer the thinner profile and crisp snap when the knife locks in place.

S30v vs VG10.

S30v has better edge retention and is a great steel. VG 10 is no slouch though and can also take an incredibly keen edge. it won't hold it as long but it sharpens quicker and is more responsive to honing and stroping.

Ergonomics goes to the Spyderco hands down.

Better contours and traction without blisters.

Fit and finish, a slight touch to Spyderco. I feel the skyline is more of a budget knife with high end steel vs the Spyderco being an overall more rounded package with skeletonized liners, four position clip. And good steel.

I've a Skyline and absolutely love it. Takes and holds are razor edge. I really like Kershaw knives; have about 6 or 8 different models; some manual some flippers and a couple A/Os. Great knives for the money. Just my opinion, but I don't like knives with holes in the blades :-)

Ahh, I see. Thanks for pointing that out. Seems like the spyderco is a great choice.

Do you know any other good knives for under $100?

1. Do you have a preference in terms of size? Large knife or small knife?

2. Do you have a sharpening system? Without one your knife will quickly dull--it's an absolutle necessity.

While I have several Skylines, including the Premium, there are others <$100 that are better than the Premium.

Spyderco Delica (2.88" VG10 $65), Native LW (3" S35VN $75), Endura (3.75" VG10 $68)

Benchmade Griptilian (3.45" 154CM $98), Mini Griptilian (2.9" 154CM $90)

Kershaw Blur (3.38" Elmax $99 S30V $89)

Liner locks are okay, as long as you do not push them too hard. Their performance envelope is not has good as a back lock. Mid back locks are just as easy to close one handed as are liner locks and are usually much stronger (this has been proven over and over again).
Of the two you mention, I would buy the Endura. I have one and it is a great knife and it will stand up to use. Another consideration would be the new versions of the Cold Steel American Lawman and the Mini Recon 1, both in CTS-XHP steel. These are very strong and capable knives and the lock is the strongest made.

I have looked at lawman on BladeHQ. Would you consider that knife better overall than the other knives I have listed?

For $100 you have an amazing array of options right now. If you want a very tough, American made folder the H&K 14715 is very good, a good EDC with very high fidget-factor the Buck 830 Marksman is a great flipper, Spyderco has the Manix 2 Lightweight in S110V if you want the best edge retention possible.

For my money, I would get the Stretch 2 FRN in ZDP-189. It's an excellent knife that comes with very good steel, great ergonomics, light, easy to carry, wonderful cutting geometry and even if you never care to buy another pocket knife it really should take care of all your day-to-day cutting needs for a lifetime.

there are probably 100 different knives out there that would make a good first EDC knife for you. Buy any one of them, try it out, and I guarantee, you will be buying a second, or third before the week is out. You most likely will never find the 'ideal' knife for you, but the fun is in the search. Good luck.

I just wanted to post here to make sure I wasn't buying any knife that is not good and that I should stay away from. Also, I will definitely be buying more knives as time goes on.

I have went with the endura 4 wave as my first knife. I am going to purchase more knives as time goes, so thank you all for your suggestions.
