What ever happened to chisel ground blades?

Does a V-grind with a chisel edge defeat the purpose of the chisel edge? Or, is it the best of both worlds? I'm thinking the former, and a V-grind with a chisel edge marketing vs best use of chisel edge design.

If a chisel edge is easier to sharpen (I send my knives out for sharpening so I don't know if that's the case, but it seems like it would be), then that advantage is preserved.

I've used Emersons with both versions of their chisel ground -- full chisel (Mini CQC-7BW) and V-grind with chisel edge (several others over the years) -- and for day-to-day tasks I find it easier to use the V-ground ones. They behave more like all of my other knives.

The chisel grind is why I will not purchase a CQC 7. It's really sad because I love the ergos that the CQC 7 has to offer.

Were there wonder claims made about them? I wasn't around for that. To me they seem just like any other grind in that they come with advantages and disadvantages for any specific task.

I'll say that as a right-handed person, I prefer them ground like the one CM pictured above.

This was always my problem with them. I actually really like the CQC-7, but it's ground on the wrong side.

This is why I carried the CQC7 in my left rear pocket. It also gives me an edge out reverse grip presentation.

I do fine with certain knives with V grinds and chisel edges, such as serrated Spyderco and Victorinox blades. I even like the chisel-edged blades on my Leatherman Micra and older Squirt.

But for some reason, Emerson knives (I own 7 or 8 of them) have never really worked for me. Perhaps it's the thickness of the blade and the relative steepness of the grinds and edges, whether V-grind chisel edges, or chisel grinds (back side of blade flat). Obviously, they work great for a lot of people. I found them fine for some things but not very good for others. Which is a shame, because I really like some of Emerson's designs.

I still have an early CQC7 when they were made by BM, which some felt was better knife than what Emerson produced, but I have no experiences with the Emerson product.

I had both the BM and Emerson version at the same time back in the day. The Benchmade was the superior product.

Both are gone now, as the chisel grind left my pepperoni and cheese unrecognizable and useless.

That seems to be the common opinion. I have a lightly used one I may put up for sale for those who want the original. I'm considering it.

I want the original. PM me if you want to swap for something out of my stash.
