What do you mean if 4" is legal :D
I think that the OP means that in his area the blades 4" and under are legal
I say BM 710 just because I own one and find it to be a great knife, but I don't think you could go wrong with the Milli either

That's what I get for only reading the title. :o

Aaaaannnnywaaaay...

My Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2 and Spec Bump get a lot of pocket time.

I don't worry about the blade length of a knife I'm carrying per se. About the most that would happen unless you've really done something bad is that a cop will confiscate your knife but let you go if for some reason he/she discovers you with a blade over-the-limit as to blade length. At worst, you'd probably only be written up for an infraction or misdameanor (sp?).

That said, the key to my philosophy is that you are willing to forefit the knife you have on you at the time regardless of the cost of the knife.

Myself, I mostly carry EDC knives in the $80.00 to $200.00 price range and I'm prepared to lose such a knife should a cop confiscate it.

number one choice if you are going to have a first is the b.m. 710. i like the spyderco enduras also but the proven classic in 4 in. is the b.m.710

I dont think carrying around an illegal knife is ever the smart thing to do. I wouldnt feel comfortable doing so because id know if it caught someones eye, i could be in crap.

To the original poster, i suggest taking a look at the spyderco para mili, emerson a100, and the sebenza (if you have some cash to burn:))

I just picked up a Kabar Mule with G10 scales real nice thin profile, lockback design and tanto with partial serrated. I really like it that I will be ordering another one. 4 inch blade length as well. Got mine for 25 at knifecenter.

price range and intended use would make a difference, as well as what type of lock is legal in your area. (for example, liner lock = switchblade in some municipalities)
Buck 110 (or lighter variants), RAT-1, Kershaw leek all come to mind at the low cost end of the scale.
