What happened to Kershaw?

Is the original Cryo considered a good knife?

Or does it fall under the "What happened to Kershaw" umbrella?

Solid if not a bit portly...the biggest gap I see is that they don't offer an in-between on their designs from Emerson, Les George, Rick Hinderer, etc. It's either a $20-$30 made in China knife or a $160-$240 Zero Tolerance knife. I wish they would offer mid priced ($60 ish) US made with Sandvik blades in some of those designs like they do with Ken Onion designed knives.

You're correct.

Kershaw Ruby 4040 which shipped in November 2014 to celebrate Kershaw's 40th Anniversary.

And it is one nice knife, easily one of my best, regardless of price.

The current run of the mill Kershaw offerings are really disappointing when you know what they are capable of.

This thread is like people who go car shopping and look at the Toyota Corolla and complain that Toyota doesn't make any Lexus level cars.

More like going car shopping at a Toyota dealer and finding the lot full of Kia vehicles...all you want is a Toyota but the salesman keeps trying to convince you that Kia's are just as nice.

More like that Toyota doesn't produce cars like the Supra anymore.

LOL, Indeed!

"Yeah, I know we USED to make the Supra, and we still COULD make it, we just DON'T.... sorry sir."

But take heart, Toyota rolls out the 2017 Toyota 86 soon. Ya never know, Kershaw might dive right back in to a Supra-esque line.

Has anyone else noticed how soft the hardware is on some of Kershaws knives. I feel like it's impossible not to strip the screws.

The blur is a classic, USA made Kershaw...no one criticizes the USA models, it's the China models that have largely taken a nose dive in the last 2 years from excellent values to now often barely better than Gerbers...

I still don't know how this keeps getting perpetuated.

The knives that are 3cr are:

Starter series
Gimmicks (cinder and decoy)
Duck commander series
Big Box exclusives

Every other model is still 8cr, cheap and we'll built.

They are built to a price point like any other value brand and that's actually harder to do than to build the absolute best thing.

KAI, from top to bottom, went all in on "form", while leaving the "p" "e" "r" "a" "n" "c" and "e" out of their knives.

Not true, their current offerings have plenty of "c" and "r" and a few numbers thrown into the mix as well.

That's really not true about quality, especially for the 2016 models. The fatback smelling like petroleum, uneven grinds, terrible blade play on others etc.

My big issue is that they aren't delivering the value especially in terms of build quality that they once did.

Just want to clarify that you're generalizing literally hundreds of thousands of knives because of one example?

No, I own about 2 dozen China made models produced over a number of years, I have noticed a significant decline in overall quality in build in the last 2 years, especially this year.

There has been a decline in materials as well, G10 is rarely ever used anymore, now it's all about plastic and "faux g10", whatever that is [emoji53]
