What happened to the Taiwanese Beckers?

I keep reading in posts from mid 2011 that the Becker Bk1 and Bk6 were supposed to come back in 1085 steel and would be made in taiwan. However, it seems like they either never came out or were greatly delayed. What's the deal? I've been aching for the Brute, and it seems that they're STILL discontinued. What's the deal!?

ultimately it was felt that the Beckers should stay US made so the 1 and 6 will not be returning anytime soon...Another large BK chopper will be though.

unless a radical change of thought occurs, the BK1 will never, ever, ever see the light of day again

there's a secret society buying all free BK1s and cutting them up :)

the BK6 is desirable... maybe. someday. way down the road. like, years, and years, from now, but unlikely...

better buy a nice custom :)

I never even heard that rumor. The BK4 and 9 are better choppers and lighter than the BK1 and the BK1 is a pain to make so it's pretty much gone for good. I've heard lots of reasons the BK6 isn't coming back but the long and short is it's just not, not anytime in the foreseeable future anyway. But the awesomeness that is to come should help ease the pain.

Quick question. If new machinery is needed to locally produce larger blades, how much money is needed to provide such? What are we talking in a dollar value?

Well I'm no machinest but I'd recon a few hundred thousand dollars on up into the millions.

Which one?

Hang in there. This cloud has a silver lining.

Ooh, what? Is something fun coming out?

Where is the Becker news forum!? Now you guys are just teasing me ;)

What exactly is the silver lining? When is the anticipated release date for this chopper? I also want a BK1 just because of the coolness factor, but from everything I have seen/read, the BK9 outperforms it in every way and is considerably lighter. Although I have seen a few too many threads/pics of broken BK9's that have stopped me from pulling the trigger. I personally want a 4....

Me too. I want to mod mine (when I get it) to be more like the machax warrior (see subsequent thread).

Would someone please say what the new chopper is? Are they bringing back the Reinhardt Kukri? Please reveal this secret!

Yes.

I've only seen 3 broken BK9 threads and two of those were camillus, though I know there are other KB BK9's that have broken. I've also seen a broken BK4. They are tough knives and there are a lot of them out there and Ka-Bar will replace a broken knife. Buy with confidence. Besides, you need a BK9. You can't not have a 9.

So they're bringing back the reinhardt? Nice! I'll have to pick one up. When will it come out?

Taiwanese Beckers:thumbdn:

I'm not aware of any of the becker line being made overseas (except a version of the BK13 that was included with the fullsize knives for a time) but the other knives that Ka-Bar has made in Taiwan have been every bit as good as the US stuff.

Becker's are my favorite large fixed blades, but if the line goes overseas I will go back to the Ontario RD series.

I try not to hold it against the 9. I realize that it is probably a lot more popular than the 4 so you're bound to see more people have issues with them just due to the sheer number of them out there. From what I have seen, the 9 is probably the best chopper on the market when you take into account it's weight of (I think) 18oz. It hangs right in there with the big boys that have 10oz or more on it. The 4 is just so dang sexy though.....
