What happened with Fallkniven?

They'll be fine. Just because a fair bit of people here dont like them doesn't mean the people where they're from aren't buying them left and right
I'm European, and even knife people here (in Europe) stopped buying them, even few of them who were Fallkniven fanboys got pissed.

They just hold onto old stuff that they have and ignore the new production from what I have gathered...

Growing pains? They seem to have recently moved facilities. Their old one is for sale on their website (as well as a samurai sword).

I only have a couple of their small slipjoints. They came crazy sharp with pristine convex edges in that laminate steel. I really like them. There was a time I was attracted to their larger fixed blades, but I just thought they were too expensive & could find an equal knife with better materials for less.

A few years ago I bought their Gentleman’s Pocketknife through Fallknives own website. The first thing I noticed was that the blade was not centered when open but like half a centimeter off.
When I contacted their customer service (which was the owner himself) I was told amongst other not so flattering things that I must be rather dumb to think of it as an issue. Luckily, he had no other option than to take the knife back and refund me.
I wasn't so lucky.

I bought one of their premium lock backs with the 3G steel and when the lock failed through normal use (essentially became a slip joint) the owner refused to warranty it saying it was obviously damaged through abuse. I threw it away and never bought another.

It's a mediocre knife marketing company masquerading as a factory.

I've had a pair of their basic F1's for at least 15 years, likely longer. They're fine. Don't remember what steel they were using then. Not used hardly at all as both ride in go bags I've had in each of my rigs for, well, ever.

What happened was reality is catching up with their con. FK website and ads claim Swedish origin but they are really Japanese made knives constructed from Japanese materials and in many cases are Japanese designs. About all that was Swedish are the owners and home office. Their poor warranty service is probably due to not having a cutler on staff to fix things since all manufacturing is subcontracted. The owners tried to sell FK about 5 years ago, even put out ads, but were unsuccessful. The company owner fielding warranty is probably a sign of a bare bones operation.

I have an F1 Elmax that cannot be beat for the money

A1 Pro which might be beat for the money but not for the ergonomics and edge toughness I've experienced with it. It's probably a bit too much knife but it's not a ton of money to me to have it.

I've been using them for about a decade. If you dont like the knife the sheath or the edge don't use it. They're all there for a reason and I prefer the plastic sheaths over a wet slimy leather sheath that I have to care for. They have leather sheaths you can buy with the knives too. The Fallknivens aren't really marketed as a this or that knife, it's just a knife. The Pro series is tougher but they cut worse for me because of the thickness behind the edge. The original F1/S1/A1 set is my favorite with the H1/TF series being very good contenders at replacing them

IMG_0286.jpegIMG_1197.jpegI only have a few. An old Idun, Juni and a F1 with Barkriver handle. The Juni and F1 were both gifts from my wife.

I always liked Fallkniven but to me the price just became more than I was willing to pay. Then again there are a few companies I liked in the past that the price to me just wasn’t worth it.

Nice juni.....Great lil cutta'...... Love mine.....
I love Fallkniven but their prices make the ole baloney knot clinch even tighter😖!!!!!

I paid full boat.for the volcano when it came out in 2012 because it had to be done😜.......
I couldn't help myself😉.......Still probably my FAVORITE knife ever.....
Only buy on the secondary market now.......You can go custom for what they are getting..

Thank you. I agree on the Juni. The Volcano is a gorgeous blade. I was tempted but didn’t pull the trigger on one.👍

Interesting that there suddenly seems to be recognition that VG10 may not be an ideal steel for edge stability.

I've always wondered how Fallkniven got away with using chippy steel at the edge when they're advertised as being such robust tools. I don't like grinding out chips, and that has kept me away from buying one.

Fallkniven was the brand that got me into outdoor knives, they were one of the few production companies pushing high carbon, stainless, Japanese steel with convex grinds with no nonsense rubber handles and zytel sheaths.

When the guard came loose on my Fallkniven A1 Pro they replaced the knife since it was one of the few models that came with a full lifetime warranty at the time of its release.

10 years ago, before I made knives I greatly appreciated the convex geometry and cutting edge retention Fallkniven offered compared to the simple 1095 offerings at the time. It was also nice being stainless for the wilderness in the pouring rain and constant wet of the area I live.

Not a fan of the trash talking here.

I do hope Fallkniven finds a way to connect more with the knife users of 2025 since the landscape may has changed over the past 10 years.

All due respect, but Cold Steel was dong that well over 30 years ago...

The one thing I liked was that the Tor and Odin (which are basically the same as the CS Trail Master and Recon Scout) had leather handles, which CS didn't offer.

I'm still a fan of their. ( and Hattori's 😉) work..........And Moki...........Anywho, great knives. Prices just need
some rethinking though....
