What happens to your knives...

I guess I should go with tec, but I just keep a notebook in the top of my gunsafe.

I have 2 sons who will hopefully want them. If not I told my wife to be sure she doesn't sell any of my knives or guns for what she was told I paid for them.

Knives are one thing. I really don't place a lot of inherent value in them individually. There is value of course and in most cases, I would not miss many of them if they disappeared tomorrow (except my regular carries). But firearms will have to be dealt with. This is why I still am on the fence about selling off a big portion of my firearm accumulation. I know I need to sell them or most of them, but it's the when that I struggle with. From my point of view, the guns have to be sold, not left up for grabs by money grubbing relatives as they know there is some serious value there. I want them to go to people who will appreciate them and carry the whole collection thing forward.

I have a few nice customs, and will certainly acquire more as my life goes on. If I die with no children they'll go to the wife (assuming she's still around). If she isn't I'd want them to be auctioned off for charity.

I also have a spreadsheet which detail each of my knives. As my beneficiaries do not share this interest, the hope is they can benefit financially while putting them in the hands of people who would appreciate them (like on the forums). Hopefully never subject to a yard sale or flea market finds thread.

Currently, the entirety of my estate would go to my mom should I have an untimely death. She'd sell them, no doubt, thought I wouldn't be surprised if she let my nephews pick over the collection before the rest are sold. Which would be quite all right with me.

I have talked to some family members that use and appreciate knives ... and along with my firearms ... each have picked out some they would like to keep ... and for each I have had one special knife either custom made or customized somewhat with something personal involved.

The rest are mostly going to be sold and the proceeds divided. But there are a few firearms and knives along with some of my wildlife art prints that are set to be donated to Phesants Forever or other type groups to auction.

And a few 22LRs donated to a local gun club to be used to teach young people to shoot and firearm safety.

Art is tough. I have a lot of that. Donating to a group like Pheasants Forever is not a bad idea. I keep procrastinating but I want to contact the one artist that I have many of his S&N prints (unframed) that are years old in hopes of selling them at a reasonable price and recycling them to art lovers. I know they know the market and likely cherry pick, but I need to establish contact and see which way the wind blows.

Assuming I die from old age, knives will probably be illegal by then and my collection go up for sale on the black market. In 2060, the black market will be run by pirates who drive around in their flying cars. Powdered Wigs and bell-bottom jeans will be back in fashion by that point. The highest bidders will buy my amazing collection of knives from the wig wearing, bell-bottom jeaned pirates. These highest bidders undoubtedly earned their fortunes by selling spice all over the galaxy.

The second best option would be to freeze my knives in carbonite with me, until such a time that my consciousness can be transferred to a superior cybernetic body. Such a cybernetic body will have an arm with a rotating knife arsenal, so I can carry all my knives at once, and always use the knife with the optimal grind, size and length specific to each cutting task. No more will we be subjected to a flat grind when the hollow grind was superior for the cut, and vice versa. It will be glorious!

I have no kids and at this point probably never will. The only youngsters among my relatives are a great nephew and a great niece, neither of whom are likely to want or care about my knives, if they even knew about them. So I have no idea what will happen to my knives or anything else of mine, and TBH, I really don't care. I'll use them (or not) as I see fit, and not worry about preserving them for posterity. I may leave a note with them mentioning they can be sold online, and to look into any potential value there.

As of now I want a full on Viking funeral, burning boat and all. And keeping with the theme I'll be burned/buried with all my knives/swords.

Unless along the way I make a few babies and they turn into little knife nuts themselves. If that's the case then they'll get their pick and I'll still be burned/buried with the bulk.

The Viking swords were buried besides the body with the blade rolled up in a kind of ball or spiral...

Apparently the steel could take it once heated up... This was done otherwise they would all be dug up!

Since few dig up cemeteries anymore, we can afford not to take that precaution. I always felt screw the environment, I don't want cremation... Although unless you are famous or someone keeps putting flowers, they end up digging you up and cremating you 50 years later anyway (in most places at least), just to make space. Even in death they don't leave you alone...

Hopefully I had given them away to family, friends, and kids by the time I die. If it's by accident, the wifey knows who to give them to.

What happens to my knives & guns when I die? Have you ever seen a hearse with a luggage rack, towing a U-Haul trailer? I'm taking it all with me.

My son appreciates that kind of stuff & will take good care of my valuable stuff when I'm gone.

My kids will have them, guns & ammo too. They can divvy em up however they like. I'll be dead so not my problem!

All of our "stuff" will be out of our control after death. Lot's of folks like to think they can keep one hand out of the grave to control things but it doesn't really work that way. Consult with legal counsel and leave your "stuff" to whomever you wish with whatever conditions you want but unless you want to spend some money to make specific provisions in your estate plan to insure your your knives and other stuff are subject to special rules for an extended period of time or in perpetuity (which frankly isn't worth it), the bottom line is after you're dead your "stuff" is out of your control and becomes someone else's stuff to be dealt with as they see fit.

So I told my 12 yr old son that if something happens to me that HE is in charge of my knives. I hope he keeps them but if he doesn’t I told him to take them to a pawn shop. Or at least give them away. I want my knives to be used by people instead of taking up space in a landfill. Nothing I own is very expensive but I try not to buy junk.

Sorry Joe but unless you have prepared appropriate estate planning documents your 12 year old minor child will have no control over your knives even though you told him he has. Consult with an attorney if you are that concerned about your knives.

never know when your time is up, but if i get sick and have an idea im on my way out ill let my boy(assuming he becomes a good man and not some drug addict deadbeat) pick what he wants and then ill sell them off along with everything else ive collected.

easier to leave money than items no one understands the value of and has zero interest in.

I told my daughter she gets all my weapons when I punch out. She can do what she wants with them when I'm gone.
