What has happened to Cold Steel?

No news yet about those specific models. What we know is that fixed blades formerly offered in A2, e.g. Trailmaster, Recon Scout, are switching to 4034.
Ok, I was worried about about the folders already being switched before I got my AK-47... I just recommended an SRK to a friend and I was looking into getting my first CS fixed blade for myself, guess the time is now...

it makes me wonder if they are following the Kershaw model and having a few high end models made from better materials, a much larger budget oriented line featuring exciting designs but modest steels and handle materials.

Nothing new for CS in my opinion. They've been coming out with more and more knives in their 'Lite' series, including Lite models of their higher ends knives (the Outdoorsman for instance). These knives are mostly made of 4116 with simple inexpensive handles and an inexpensive price. They are a lot of value and that is one of the things Lynn wanted to bring to the table (great value and good working knives everyone can afford), but they are maybe digging into their high end product sales, maybe not. I imagine they are selling a LOT of their Lite knives, probably more than their normal knives, and LT seems to be capitalizing on that market.

This could bite them in the ass if it turns out they produce fewer expensive versions in an effort to crank out ever more inexpensive versions.

IMO however, CS is already so polarizing with knife people that if they had a few 'classic' series and a lot of 'Lite' series knives they'd be just fine. LT is really big on the idea that everyone should be able to afford a functional, usable, tool and/or weapon. Hopefully these 4034 knives are all of the above, functional, useable, and affordable; and hopefully they'll still offer these same patterns in a great steel as well.

Just that those probably aren't "lite" series, or they at least aren't announced as such.

I also think it's possible there will be either premium steel or very low end steel. In any case I don't like it.

You learn something new every day! I'd no idea CS didn't actually make their own knives, which I guess makes sense because I've never been a fan of their stuff so never really looked into them.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Mayor Fuglycool on Youtube? We should get him to do a side by side of the Trailmaster, old and new steel.

Just to clarify, they were never actually offered or released in A2...they were supposed to be, for like the last 2 years, but then this.

Maybe it's a marketing move. Maybe they're getting away from the "Lite" monicker and making that their normal line, and then they'll market a "Premium" line with San Mai and 3V? Who knows but Lynn?

Maybe you will get your wish and Cold Steel will be out of business by 2037.
Ehhhhh... talking about that...
Wow... no kidding! According to the group opinion Cold Steel should be long gone, and after the required bash of LT he should be, too!

I noticed it is the same criticisms that get launched against so many knife companies which is "I am so frustrated with them. Why don't they listen to me to show them how to market and for company direction of product development? I can help them with design, steel selection, and handle materials so they can really be successful, but also do the right thing by the knife community".

This was 17 years ago... maybe the folks here don't know everything after all. Betcha CS makes it another 17. I won't be here to see it but I would take that bet if I would be.
