What have you sold to fund a knife?

I've got an old pinned and recessed (heavy user so not much collector value) S&W model 19 that I'm considering selling because it just sits in the safe unloved. I have Considered selling it in the past but never got around to it but with my growing interest in picking up a sebenza I'm starting to consider selling it again and buy one.

I probably wouldn't buy a $400 knife unless I was freeing up funds else's where to fund it so I'm stuck asking myself.. Do I really want to sell a gun to get a knife?

So.. What you have sold or traded for a knife?:D (advice is welcome if you feel the need to offer it)

Sorry for bad grammar I'm posting from my cell phone while eating lunch at work:rolleyes:

When you change your name from "10fingers" to "9fingers" or less, you know that you've been bitten by the knife bug and no price is too great if you "really" want that new blade! I'll swap some back and forth and usually keep some cheaper stuff to make trades with. Got a couple of guys that'll hold a knife for me so I can get paid the following week. Or, even better, I can work a layaway with one of the vendors at our local flea market. It's bad when you walk up and ask to see a particular blade and the guy looks at you and says "Get around on this side of the counter where you belong!" I do try to save up sometimes for one but that's the good thing about Kershaw too...my tastes are fairly inexpensive.

I've sold knives mostly to recuperate from new knife purchases or other recent or forthcoming purchases/bills. Since joining BF last year in August, I've bought and sold a lot of knives. Prior to joining, I just bought what I thought was cool and/or tactical looking at B&M stores.

In March, I started selling off knives I didn't use or didn't really care for that much to free up funds towards speakers and an amp for my (birthday present). I started selling again in July to start a fund towards an engagement ring. Local jeweler let me make payments on it. Between March and now, I've sold off, in no particular order:

Spyderco Southard
Spyderco Nilakka
Spyderco Caly 3 CF/ZDP
Benchmade 530
Benchmade D2 Mini-Grip
Benchmade Grip
Benchmade 162
LionSteel SR-1A
DPx HEAT/F
Brian Tighe Mini-Tighe Rod
SOG Pentagon Elite 1
Le Thiers Slipjoint (traded)
Strider SnG (completely regret)
ZT0350TS
Kershaw Blur
Kershaw Scallion
Kershaw Leek

First generation Colt SAA and a Pre-WWII model 70 Winchester .270 in almost like new condition. Also Win model 61 and 63 .22's in similar condition. If you really want the sebenza, go for it. You'll see it a lot more than the revolver and get daily satisfaction rather than pulling it out every few months.

I agree. Get use out of your money. The sebenza will serve you daily for as little ng as you need it.

I've sold a few knives and a few guns. Nothing too rare (unless I really, really didn't like it). Being a .357 revolver lover, I wouldn't sell that Model 19 if I could help it. Do you have any guns or knives that will sell well but be easy to replace in case you miss them?

Out of the dozens of knives and guns I've sold I only regret a couple. A S&W 640 and a S&W 686 that became impossible to replace since S&W was banned from exporting to my country, prices on the used market went through the roof and the dollar exchange rate skyrocketed as well. Bad combination. A used 686 in good condition now costs about the same as five months rent for a nice three room apartment in a posh neighbourhood.

You want to sell a sidearm to get a folding knife? Are you CRAZY?

I would never sell a quality firearm that is in sevicable condition to buy a blade. But that's just me, to each their own.

Do yourself a favor. Buy one of those Sabenza clones and carry it for two or three months to see if you really like the ergonomics of the knife. Yes, I know the clone will not be up to the same standards, but you will have a cheap EDC to try out for a while before you have to give up cold hard cash on the real thing. It would really suck if you gave up the S&W for a knife that just does not really work for you or you decide that you dislike the thing.

I have a house full of great knives that for one reason or another don't make the grade for my "keep no matter what list". For example, it may have a great blade but poor handle egonomics or maybe a well designed knife but crap workmanship, etc.

My immortal soul.

Naw 90% other knives and some pieces of other gear I didn't use to their worth.

I would seriously sell my soul for a ZT0801 with a diamond blade. Talk about edge retention!

Please don't support counterfeiters.

A better option would be to buy a user Sebenza on the exchange and use it knowing you can get your money back any time if you don't like the knife.

If you're undecided which Sebenza you're after I'd recommend the 25 over the 21, I prefer the ergos and the ball bearing lock interface despite lacking the pivot bushing that some feel define the Sebenza.

I sold 10k rounds of 9mm ammo for cheap in early 09 before the price went through the roof to fund my knife habit.
Timing is everything.

I'm currently in the same situation as you. To answer the question: all of my budget blades + some higher end knives as well that I don't use. On one hand I want the Sebenza more than any knife right now, but do I want to spend that kind of money, even though I could barely fund it with my other knives I've sold? You could buy it, then sell it if you don't like it. I'm probably going to try other knives first that I've never tried, then I'd appreciate it even more once I've handled more knives, and the long wait also would help me appreciate it even more.

My first Wife :p

Really I make the hobby pay for itself. Out with the old and in with the new.
