What have you sold to fund a knife?

Nothing. I have a Leatherman Wave and a PST, Victorinox Farmer and Tinker, and three Moras. There is nothing that I NEED for my daily or weekend needs. It may take some patience, but I can wait for anything I want.

Please don't support counterfeiters.

A better option would be to buy a user Sebenza on the exchange and use it knowing you can get your money back any time if you don't like the knife.

If you're undecided which Sebenza you're after I'd recommend the 25 over the 21, I prefer the ergos and the ball bearing lock interface despite lacking the pivot bushing that some feel define the Sebenza.

Would you feel better if I suggested he purchase a used Sebenza clone?

FWIW, I would love to buy a Sebenza myself, but there is just no way that I am willing to plunk down that sort of cash for a blade without knowing if the knife is really going to meet my needs. This is were a clone may become an asset because of the knowledge you could gain by the use of it.

I can see why you would have heartache with my comment if I had said get the clone instead of the real thing or if I had offered to sell him one, claiming it was the real deal. I don't see any difference here than someone purchasing a Benchmade 162 to try before they give up hard earned money to buy a Sibert Bushcrafter.

Your points are irrelevant...
If your not willing to pull the trigger on a sebenza, then that's your problem. It's a premium knife for a premium price. If you can't afford it, I understand, but don't buy a fake...

I can tell you first hand that the sebenza is a great knife, and the customer service and warranty is outstanding. They stand behind their product 100%.
If you can afford a sebenza, get one. Once you make that jump to CRK's, Hinderers, Striders, etc. you will see a large difference in quality over your standard production knife.

I had to sell my H&K 93 to get out of knife-debt. Be careful. No regrets tho, it has a great owner.
Yes, you have to try a Sebenza, then YOU will know if it's for you.
btw, Quality, to me, is how well a knife cuts. I can be content with my SnG in my pocket or my Bucklite.

Haven't sold anything. I don't buy a lot of *high end* knives, and I don't buy things that I have to sell other things to get (bad economics).

I do, however, sell knives that I don't like....but not with the intent of buying another particular knife.

I sold like four or five knives to fund my Tilt.....

My interests shift in knives to some degree. I always like the tough simple designs, but I'll go through a hinder kick, then fixed customs, then balisongs. So as my interests fade in one area , and rise in another, knives inevitably get used less, and become less valuable to me. I then have no problem selling a knife I was once dying to get, for a knife I am NOW dying to get, and is much more valuable in my collection.

This. Though I have not ever sold a knife.

Monday I will be putting up more knives to fund a Southern Grind Bad Monkey, my girlfriend really wants one.

Maybe I would have a different attitude about all of this if I had ever used a Sebenza in the past.

I sold the watch on the right (reference number 168000) to fund a DDR.

I sold a iPhone 4 when they were new, a Xbox 360, and some other knives. Wish I kept the kimura tho :,(

The difference is that the Benchmade is an endorsed (rather than stolen) production version of a custom made knife. This means that Benchmade purchased the rights to make the production version. In other words, Shane Sibert made some money off of this agreement.

With the clones and fakes and ripoffs, not so much....

I'm not saying it would necessarily stop me from trying out a clone to see if I liked the size/ergonomics/etc. before I spent big money on the real thing. Simply pointing out that there IS a difference.
