What hiking boots do you wear?

I have been looking for a new pair of hiking boots and I feel like no one offers a boot with all my criteria:
-waterproof gore tex
-gusseted tongue
-full grain leather
-vibram sole
-abrasion-resistant rand encircling the boot where wearing most often occurs

The following is the best example I can find but at $270 I am looking for cheaper alternatives.

Cabela's Alaska Hiker Boots by Meindl'

Thanks for the advice!

Danner has everything you are looking for with the addition of stitch down construction, lacing to the toe, available widths from narrow to extra wide, and an absence of "speed lacing" (a personal preference).

Has anyone had any experience with the DANNER TALUS ?

I have the cabelas meindl hikers, and they are very comfortable. I got them for $80 in the bargain cave in Hamburg :D

The best pair of boots you can get are those that fit you properly. What may be good for one person, may not be good for you.

I would suggest you go to a good shop where you can try on several different brands.

I have 2 pairs of boots. A pair of Salomon Quest 4D's and a pair of Scarpa Trek. I also briefly had a pair of Meindl Burma's, but they were too wide and I just couldn't get on with them.

Bargain cave at Cabelas!! Meindels are the best.. I have 80 days in the alaska mountains in them and they are simply the best. I owe my life to the pair in your photo. I have 5 sets of meindels and I would not spend a nickel on anything else.. My guide in alaska wears them and he is the one who turned me on to them. They are comfortable, offer tremendous support and are built to last. I have a pair of custom russels and they only get worn now when I bird hunt. I would go try them on for fit, and I will warn you they are stiff at first but be your best friends in a couple days.

I wear mine till they fall apart. The longest lasting and most comfortable for me were Prospectors. Last pair lasted 7 years till the sole fell apart. Worn every day.

Danner all the way, but they fit me better than any others. YMMV, but i doubt it :)

I don't have much basis for comparison against really good boots, but all I can add is that they are easily the most comfortable footwear I've owned.

I haunt the bargain cave looking for steals. Got a wiggys overbag for 1/2 price as well - like $70 bucks.

Sounds like you have gotten some good feedback. I would add Kayland vertigo high boots (or any Kaylands) They are made w/ evEnt as the water proofing and work well, breathe well, dry fast. Vibram soles.
Good luck

I suggest the Vasque Wasatch. I have boots with more miles than most, I don't think you need a full rind (the rubber part around the bottom), the toe part is the most important. Otherwise they fit your needs.

The best way to choose boots is to try them on. I buy all of mine from REI, best warranty in the business, if you wear the boot for three months and they just don't suit your needs you can take 'em back.

I have some Meindls and they are excellent. If you can afford it, they are worth the money.

I have also had Asolos (Sasslong model) and Alicos hold up well.

But as noted above, it all depends upon whether the last used by the manufacturer is compatible with your feet.
