What hiking boots do you wear?

Onesport Moraine are my main backpacking boot. However I have several from Vasque, and Merrel for dayhikes and lighter duty backpacking.

The best pair of boots you can get are those that fit you properly. What may be good for one person, may not be good for you.

I would suggest you go to a good shop where you can try on several different brands.

That is probably the best advice you can get.

Every maker uses a different "last" and depending on your foot some will be awful, some will be just alright, and with enough effort you will find one that's just right. Once you know which one works you can shop around for prices. Until you know, shopping by mail, will have you trying to "make do" unless you get really lucky.

Get to a shop like REI and start trying brands and be sure to use an incline to see if your foot slides forward or back.

Right now I wear an old pair of military issued boots. I was thinking of upgrading to a boot designed more for hiking but I figure if its not broke why fix it.

That's where I got my Sasslongs. I already had some other Asolos that were built on a similar last so I just ordered by mail. The Sasslongs are considerably sturdier than the FSN 95 model. Each boot weighs around 6-7 oz. more than the FSN 95, as I recall.

If you know the Asolos will fit you and order from Sierra, get on their e-mail DealFlier list and you'll likely get a coupon for at least 20% off.

Asolo's

They are really nice. Did you go up to Cheyenne to get them or just do the mail order? I like that place because they raise and compete German Shorthaired Pointers.

I mail orderd them. I know from years of wearing ASOLO's that a 14W is pretty standard throughout their product line.

Shorthairs are to hyper for me. I'm in love with labs.

I just bought myself Kayland vertigos and like them alot. Not as much support ankle wise but they are very light and the lacing system is nice.

I have one goofy foot so I have to get my boots made Custom. I forget who makes them but it is a place in CA. and they do a fantastic job. They are light but i have worn them every day for two years and they are still like new. I had two pair of them made so I should never have to buy another pair. The best thing is that the vA got them for me.

I've been using Vasque Sundowners since the mid-1980s. They've never let me down. For ultralight summer hiking I often use a good pair of trail running shoes if the terrain is not too rough.
