What hiking boots do you wear?

I love Scarpa for a heavy and partially shanked boot. They are well made, and on their third Vibram sole. 10 years and the uppers are still in perfect shape, with semiannual snoseal treatments.
I stumbled across a pair at sierra trading post last week. Not my size.
since I don't have any photos of my own boots on hand:

Raichle All-Degree Light Gore-Tex® Mountaineering Boots

Whites boots(made in USA) seem to be the best thing going other than Danner...
Im sporting some Carhartt/Red Wings that seem to be OK... I was sad to find they are made in China though(Unlike all my other Carhartt stuff), so I suppose they will fall apart quick.... Only thing about Whites I dont like is they look like witch boots...LOL...

Personally I wouldn't be to worried about getting that wear resistant rind. For hiking boots I have never found those areas to wear any faster than the rest of the boot, that kind of wear usually happens in the shop.

Also, just about any full leather upper can be made water proof with an annual application of sno-seal, or Montana pitch blend. Just don't use those worthless sprays or silicone based products, they don't work, I know from experience. Make sure whatever you use is wax based. The two I listed are the only wax based products I've ever come across, so I think those are your only options.

I use two; a Salomon Mission and Columbia GTX. Both are light, with Gore-Tex and it feels like I'm wearing a pair of tennis shoes.

L.L. Bean Cresta Hiker's!!! they have everything you are looking for. Ive had a pair now for 10 years and just got a second pair 2 months ago. love them! The frist pair was $150 10 years ago now they go for $179

These are great boots! I've had a pair for 5 years and they just won't die. They don't have an "abrasion-resistant rand encircling the boot where wearing most often occurs". But they've been bomb proof none the less. I'm also a big fan of Meindle boots, I've got a pair of their "Perfect" Hunters. You'd have a hard time going wrong with either of those.

Good luck,

Brandon

I also recomend L.L. Bean Cresta Hikers. I have had a pair for about a year now and they are top notch! Really great boots!

Vasque wasatch gtx, some of the best boots made, in my opinion, i took mine to hell and back on a 30 day NOLS trip (plus all the training for my trip) and they held up admirably. Lots of snow, lots or rocks, lots of mud crud and water. I love those boots and not that expensive

Meindl Borneo

I have a very wide foot so had to have wide fitting shoes.
The Meindl Bornea is known to be a wide made shoe.

The Lowa products are some of the best made and most comfortable boots I've ever worn.
