What I Learned By Being Away

Whoa when Sal Glesser and Bob Doizer welcome you back that's something. I
greatly enjoyed reading your reviews on the Millie and Highland and hope in the future you have time to do more. Best of luck with your growing family.

Welcome back! I always enjoyed your detailed knife evaluations. And congrats on the new additions to the family! A house, a dog, and a baby, that's a great way to go. Just be careful, once the kid gets to be a couple years old you will want another one, and when that one gets a couple years old....

I almost posted a "whatever happened to buzzbait" message earlier this week. I'm not a big contributor to this forum, but I always enjoyed reading your posts. Welcome back.

Welcome back Buzz! I always enjoy your review, testing and comments, and find them giving quite a wide perspective on the issues at hand.

Do you know that your CONVEX GRIND article is now on SOSAKOnline?

I myself took a bit of time off to cool down from knife fever. Also have switched from tacticals to SAK! I love my SAKs (Spartan Lite and OH Bundeswehr). I still keep my Point Guard though, if you remember me asking you about it. Unfortunately, the newer versions are all 420, not AUS6 anymore.

Hi Buzzbait,

Great to see you back! You're a voice of knowledge and wisdom, and I have always found your posts to be a wonderful resource.

Congrats on the upcoming addition of Buzzbait Jr. to the family :)

Walkabout

Alas, I'm afraid it will not be a Buzzbait Jr. It's going to be a girl. I searched the ultrasound photos extensively for a penis, but could not find one anywhere. I went as far as to ask the doctor whether he could sew one on, but he politely refused the ten spot I shoved under the table. It never occurred to me that I might have a girl. I always just assumed that I could have a boy by shear force of will.

I must admit that replies from both Bob and Sal have swelled my head to epic proportions. My special tactical hat has reached the limits of its “one size fits all Navy Seals” elastic band. And that’s a big deal, considering that I happen to normally have a head the size of a dried up tangerine. But seriously, it brings great pleasure to be remembered by the likes of Mr. Dozier and Mr. Glesser. In my mind, they represent some of best natural “horse sense” that the knife industry has to offer.

There’s was a small hiccup with my SNG order, but everything is straightened out now. It’s amazing how hard it is to actually find a dealer that has an SNG in stock. Fortunately, a very nice lady at Plaza Cutlery was able to help me out. I must say that it was great to be able to talk to a person on the telephone, as opposed to doing the usual clicking of the “Order Now” button on a website. The Internet sometimes gets so impersonal about things that are personal to me. Anyways, the SNG will arrive on Monday. Maybe I’ll even call in sick with the hanta virus, just to be there when the brown truck rolls into my driveway.

You don't have anything to worry about. I had a girl first, then a boy, then another girl. Believe me, it doesn't make any difference except that girls give you a lot less trouble growing up! She will certainly enjoy going fishing and playing catch with her Dad, I can tell you from experience. You'll see what I mean - as long as you're a good Dad it's all the same.

Welcome back & Congratulations on the Baby, House and the Dog.
You sure have been busy!

'Buzz,
In proper order, welcome back, congratulations, and I think you'll like the SnG (but I bet it doesn't replace your beloved Millie).

Hey, Buzz!! Great to hear from you and a big congrats on the upcoming addition to your family.:D

BTW, you're going to love that SnG.

Welcome back! I too was recently wondering what happened to you. If I remember right you were all about the Doziers for a bit, right?

Welcome back Buzz! It's good to have you back. Hopefully you'll even write an occassional review or two. I bought two of my favorite knives as a result of reading your posts, one of them being a Millie and the other a production version of the Angry Beaver.

I have always enjoyed reading your posts. It is good to have you back. Congratulations on the soon to be here child. Jim

Just noticed this thread.

Glad to see you back Buzz. Your classic Millie-710-Seb comparison was one of the best I've read. I re-read it many times before buying a small Sebenza a few years back (even if it isn't your favorite). You'd laid out the pros and cons in such a way that it made it easy for anyone to select the best knife depending on the desirable criteria, which is what I did. Thanks!

Also, I use your Convex Grind FAQ to keep my two Barkies sharp (it's a sticky in the Bark River Forum on Knifeforums).

I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Ahh, a girl. I have one. They're pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Of course there's the eventual problem of boys... My wife's co-worker summed the difference between having a little boy and a little girl up nicely when he said that "when you have a boy you only need to worry about ONE penis, but when you have a girl you have to worry about ALL the penises (peni?)." But it feels nice when they come to you to fix something, or they're just watching TV or playing with blocks and just think to say "Love you da-da." It'll melt your heart every time.
