What I'm working on

Currawong,

Thanks for posting! I'm working full time now. I just got a new house where I can set up a mini shop and work on some personal projects in my free time.

I will be make more knives in the future. I still really want to do it. I just haven't had the time or the shop space.

I've been getting lots of messages from customers asking if I'm still making knives. It really warms my heart because it means I was at least doing something right . :thumbsup:

From what I have of yours, I can say you did a lot more then “something right”;)

You just gave a straight answer to a straight question. Didn’t you learn anything in law school?

I can say.....being a lawyer is more stressful than making knives for fun!!

Making knives for a living would likely be more stressful than making knives for fun...but probably still less so than being a lawyer.

I've been a lawyer for about 12 years... stress levels are definitely higher than any job I've ever had!!

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Here's what I've got going on in the shop

1. We are cutting blanks for new prototypes next week including the Tyrant Kukri, a new secret hawk design thats a collaboration, and some medium sized blades that I haven't named yet. All are going to be cut from Z tuff stock. Also getting the details of the Fjord Hiker and the Fell Chef finalized for production. P.S. I think the Fell Chef might be the most utilitarian blade of all time. Ultra light weight, strong enough for hard use, small enough to carry, and slicey enough to out perform any typical field knife.

First, here's the Fell Chef. I'm going no choil to maximize cutting edge. The pinch grip at the top will be utilized instead of a choil. Also going with a thicker 3/16th ish stock to give it greater durability. The grind is plenty high to be an ultra efficient slicer. The first run of these will be AEBL to give a nice balance of properties and also keep the model affordable.

Next is the Fjord hiker, pictured on top, and below, is the still unnamed mid sized model. This one is a 7in blade, but knowing me, Ill probably go with a 9in blade.... Its going to be a hard hitting do it all field knife, finished stock thickness will probably be .250 or similar. Chonky, but with a very tall bevel.

2. Finishing out the last of the Fell Beast Run including a pretty cool variant I'm calling the Fell Beast "Air." Basically a full flat ground version. Weights 2 ounces less and takes about 8X as long to grind 😅. And Finally, grinding out all of the prototype Tyrant Bowies and getting them ready for delivery. VAMOS! (The Tyrant Bowie pictured is a factory second)

ZTuff for the Hiker?
Im going back and forth. This model has historically been Z wear and 3V which are both great materials and perform really well. But Z tuff has really been growing on me. I think its a great choice for a smaller to mid sized hard use blade and is more affordable than 3V or Z wear which is nice. I really want to be conscious of cost and not price anyone out. Compared to most knives in its size category, the Fjord hiker is more expensive to produce due to its thicker stock (more milling, more steel) and swedge (even more milling and grinding) which are both costly features, but make a kick @$$ blade.

For this model it won't be that difficult to run multiple steels so I could have a variety.
Right now I'm thinking:

AEBL- base model/ stainless steel option for a really affordable blade. I could probably offer these at $350.
Z Tuff as the next step up for $400
Z wear or 3V for a high wear resistance option for $450ish.

Wow... Love the higher grind on the Fell Beast Air! And the Fell Chef looks awesome without choil!! Any chance getting one with a full height flat grind?

Also curious where things are with the Bush Waki. That was a great design!

Thanks! I'm like the air edition as well. Feels more like a true machete.

For the Fell Chef, I will run them saber ground but can definitely finish one out FFG by hand no problem.

And I want to do the Bush Waki or Katana but I don't think the machine my CNC guy has can accommodate it. Ill check with him and see if at least the Bush Waki could fit.

Also, we'd need to make like 50 of them. I'm not sure if there's enough interest. Maybe Ill cut a prototype this week and get a pre-order going if there is enough interest after the Tyrant Bowie run is complete.....

I must say, I've had a Fjord Hiker for several years now. Its one of the more useful designs I own. Love it.

Looking forward to seeing more progress on the kukri. And would also be interested in a bush sword, but would need to see design / price before committing.

And when are you going to reveal your Mega Boner to the world?

The Fjord Hiker is what drew me to Huntsman knives. Never had a chance to find one and then Martin went out into the world. Nice to get a second chance, possibly?

We are aiming for the Kurki after the Fell Chef and Fjord Hiker are done. The Kurki is about as complex of a project as it gets so we are going to take our time and make sure we get all the details right. Its gonna be one nasty blade.

I'm getting a bush sword prototype made as well for testing. Wish me and my grinder luck as spend 4 hours establishing the bevels 😅 CNC has ruined me. Its so nice getting to start with a nice, even bevel vs. hogging off material by hand.

As for the mega boner.... I got the prototypes back from HT, planning on my reveal later this week. Disclaimer* , my mega boner reveal is "exclusive content" and will only be available to my OnlyF**s subscribers. 🤣

Fell Chef and Fjord hiker are up next. VAMOS. I'm planning on doing a "Soft" pre-order for the Fjord hiker. Basically, its a $100 deposit. You can cancel any time for a refund, but it will help us get the blade into production faster and with more options if we know what everyone wants beforehand and how much demand there is.
