What is a good knife for chopping?

Johnny man as Rat Stated , Everything else is out there ,

I am assuming you’re talking about batoning , what you saw Bear doing with his knife is not an extraordinary feat and for allot less than 500 bucks , you can have your pick of many knives that are just as capable as the Baley S4…example.. Rc-4, Gerber LMF 2, Cold Steel SRK, Etc. Etc. And still have money left over to buy a hatchet, ax, kukri , BOB with gear, Bottle of Jack etc. etc. As already mentioned in the other post its really what specifically you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend .. A Gerber LMF 2 can be had for as little as 70 bucks and is a good survival knife. While a Busse will cost you several hundred bucks , excellent knives by the way. But both will baton without a problem.. I’m actually growing attached to my RC-4 but you may want to look at the RC-6...

Good luck man

Scrapyard Dogfather.

Like jbombelli said...get a Dogfather!!! I've got one and it chops like there's no tomorrow ;). Still got my eyes on a CGFBM, FFBM, or even a NMFBM. Haven't made my mind up yet. Perhaps all three? I love choppers...I really do.

What is batoning?

Batoning is a technique used to force the blade of your knife through, say a peace of wood by striking the back with a peace of wood or other object to split or cut into it, . The wood being the Baton and the Knife Being the wedge … I don’t recall seeing Bear chop anything outside of saplings, did he use another 500 dollar knife or are you talking about the Baley he used. If so that was probably batoning or just a really long episode.

Hope this helps
