I'm looking for something like the Skookum Bush Tool, the Ray Mears Woodlore knife, or the Koster Bushcraft knife. Good quality carbon steel, micarta handles, full tang.

I want something I can order right now rather than getting on a waiting list.

I don't want a Mora.

Please help with suggestions.

If you want to order right now...you might try Wright & Son LTD, they are usually available on ebay. Still takes 2 weeks for the knife to arrive from GB. I like the looks of that Muscrat Man that was up the other day..OR..Charles MAY..he makes a fantastic Scandi.
Now, if you want a Scandi that will do everything that those will do, for alot less..buy a Wood Jewel, Javenpaa, or Kellum..traditional Scandi..and enjoy.

I agree on about the choices Gunknifenut made. You can get them from Ragweedforge.com or even off of Ebay. I understand the waiting part for customs, but good thing come to those who wait. I for one am on the waiting list for a Skookum bush tool. I figure 10 months is long enough to save up for one. In the mean time I plan on expanding my scandi grind collection.

If you don't want to wait...scan the Exchange or look at http://www.ragweedforge.com/

Some are laminated stainless and not all have the full tang (which isn't always a neccessity), but if you search around, you may find something you like.

I picked up an O1 Bushcraft with a scandi grind from Sheffield of England...they are pretty common in the UK and on UK's Ebay:

My only issue other than the price is that it is waaaay too thick for me.

i will second taking a look at ragweed forge (http://www.ragweedforge.com/FinnishKnifeCatalog.html), ragnar is a great guy to do business with, he has an extensive collection of knives and if you have the itch even blades that you can handle yourself. lots of folks that have used and handled many knives that i know have bought and used and prefered this blade the Järvenpää Aito Puukko with Bark Handle #1244-Bark

Brusletto knives mostly come in stainless but I've had excellent experience with their knives. I can get the steel they use to an extremely sharp edge. Edge holding, durability and corrosion resistance were all pretty good. My medium sized fixed blade has done A LOT of chopping and batoning and the stacked leather / aluminum handle hasn't loosened up at all, while the blade has held up fine. Great knives.

Am I experiencing deja vu, or is the same question about the best bushcraft knife being asked over and over again with unceasing regularity?

There is not to many questions on here that havn't already been asked, or too many topics that havn't already been covered but sometimes through repetition we get some new input just my 2 cents.

The "Best Bush Craft Knife" thread is never ending. However, the question;

I want something (scandi bushcraft knife) I can order right now rather than getting on a waiting list.

is a pretty good one. To date no decent knife company has heard the call for a flat grind traditional scandi bushcraft knife. Although the rumor has it that Mike Stewart at BRK&T may take up the call. They have been pretty much in the relm of one off customs and expensive British knives.

I admit the difference between a traditional Scandi and the "bushcraft scandi" is small but it's all about the little differences isn't it.

This wasn't a generic "best bushcraft knife" question, it was a question about a very specific type of bushcraft knife and choices available that don't require waiting months.

RR is right, it really is nice to see a variety of answers beside the most common, a Mora. Besides, there are newer members here that also give good input about their experiences with different knives.
Repetitious? Yes, but we all probably asked this type of question one time or another. LOL

The Enzo looks a lot like what I want, but it's a kit and I'm lazy. My previous attempted forays into knife-making did not end well.

I agree John. There are always new folks that come here and are looking for some answers...just because we few that have been here for a while, already might have an opinion or answer for the questions asked by Newbs...it doesnt mean we sould look down on them..or give them a hard time. There are places here on Bladeforums, that if you ask about a knife that the herd think is substandard..you will be ridiculed and teased. This just seems wrong to me. Infact, I know that it is wrong. You have to be a small person to tease someone that is new to your hobby IMO. I, ofcourse am not pointing any fingers at anyone here in WSS..this is a good place to hang with great people. Gene

If people did not continue to trade ideas and dialogue then blade forums would not exist and it would become an archive. I have been here for a LONG time and I have been a member here longer than most. Questions come up all the time and most are repeats and it does not bother me a bit. I do searches ALL the time and when I am done, I will still ask the same questions that were in the search. Why? Because at different times on this board there are new members, new products, new experiences and different snap shots in time. So all of you members that do not like repeat questions, either lighten up or leave. We do not need your " negative attitude".

Respectfully,

shane

I believe Koster has a large batch of bushcrafts coming out soon in a variety of different steels.

The Koster is a great knife and I ordered it instead of a Skookum because it was cheaper. While I'm sure the Skookum is nice and all, the Koster is great in its own right as well.
