Tool, art, option, gateway, and symbol. It's something more, though.

Sure, it's handy to have a cutting tool to deal with the frustrations of our plastic-wrapped world, but this is simplifying the knife, too much.

The knife has been with us for a long time. It might be the second-oldest tool in human history, next to a heavy rock. Using a knife gives me a sense of connection that I don't often get, no matter how contrived that feeling might be. Knives helped make us what we are today, and while what we are may not be all good... some of it is.

Yeh, what you all said.
For me, it’s art you can fidget with while cooking, (inside or in the woods), it might just save your bacon.
I’ve had a knife with me since I was a kid. No knife, would be like going to the job site in bare feet.
I like the ancestors comments. They lived outside, owned and used 1 or 2 knives. We live inside, own 2,337 knives, 4 of which we use. (or something like that)
They look like sharks

Mostly with an eye to their value as sharp and pointy things that can be of use to a tool using mammal, but the collector thing is always there too. I'm definitely more a knife fondler than a fidget flipper. If they're an investment I have a terrible financial advisor and they need to be fired yesterday.

I dont know why I'm relieved that ''cutting tool'' is winning.
It’s basically the option I put in as a throwaway option. Of course it’s a cutting tool. The other percentages on the answers interest me the most. It seems like a lot of people would use their knife in self defense, even though as a self defense tool it is not very good.

I think when push comes to shove however, I would even use a zhunter to defend myself or my loved ones .
