What is a survival knife?

most of US are very prepared when we go into the woods, desert, sea, etc...that we all have a knife EDC. I doubt any of us will be in a survival situation...The knife I carry EDC is the knife that will be most useful to me on any given day. For me this is a large folder and my brain. If I am going on a "planned" outing it will be tools appropriate to the job..backpacking, hunting, fishing, canoeing etc...useally a fixed blade hunting knife, fillet knife and a hatchet for camping. This subject is a dead horse, just take what works for you. Obviously, chris uses what suits his needs as an outdoorsman, hunter etc.. as taught by his male relatives...as do I.

Buying a quality knife as a collector, that a $10 mora or $40 buck 110 can do the same job is an entirely different manner. I admit it I like to buy knves...but I need a lot of justification to carry around a knife over $150 in a planned outing.

Agreed. We all seem to be very prepared here. Its ironic in a way, are preparedness will probably keep us out of the survival situation that we are prepared to deal with in the first place. If that makes sense to anyone.

Perfect sense to me, I get into survival situations all the time but because of my preparedness it turns into an inconvienence as apposed to a life or death situation. It has been preached time and again about your mindset being the most important survival tool. Take James Kim as an example, I am sure that if I had made that wrong turn I would not have proceeded to the point of no return. I am also sure that I would not have tried to walk out in street clothes, the best thing you can do concerning a survival situation is to not put yourself into one in the first place.

I am always running scenarios in my mind, what would I do if this happens or what would I do in this situation, I don't believe average, or normal, :o people do this. IMO that is what seperates the people that frequent discussion groups like this and everyone else that we like to term sheeple. Chris

Scott, Do you have a picture of the version you made? I have never seen that knife before and really like the design of it.

Here you go.:)
