What Is Currently The Best Buy Out Of Folders

Buck 110,Case Swing guards,Russlocks, and C-locks,all the SAK's are a great value.Yes,the Chinese made knives are good now, many of them. But very little pride of ownership in them to me.To use and abuse they are fine.

Just wondering because in my last hobby (Flashlights) there was a list of the top 10 best buys in flashlights and everyone pretty much agreed on what the best values were.

As you have already seen, such agreement is not to be found in the knife world. There is too much variation in the parameters. Good for one person is not always good for another, because their usages are different.

There is in fact, so much variation, that it makes more sense to to me to list some makers who give good value, rather than individual knives. Limiting it to ten produces:

Benchmade
Bradley
Boker
Buck
Byrd
Case
Fallkniven
KaBar
Kershaw
Spyderco

100 years ago it was Victorinox.
Today it is Victorinox.
In 100 years it will be Victorinox.

You can't beat a Victorinox, you just cant.

some of the most popular knives on these forums seems to be inmop :

benchmade 710
spyderco military
spyderco delica
benchmade mini griptilian
spyderco cali 3
kershaw leek
kershaw junkyard dog
cold steel voyager
boker subcom
spyderco native

Best bang for buck on the inexpensive side is:

Boker Trance
Spyderco Tenacious
Kershaw Skyline

There might be others on the list, but these 3 should be on every list.

I would vote for Spyderco Enduras or Delicas (excellent blade steel for the price, lightweight, very ergonomic). The tip of my Native broke off, so I'm not to happy with it. I also love my BM Griptilian (light, axis lock, tough 154CM). Kershaw Leeks are also very good knives (decent steel, thin, Speedsafe). I'm interested in this Byrd line. I don't know much about how well the steel holds up as far as retention goes, but when I used to sell them, i remember them being very well put together. (this coming from a guy who swore he'd never buy another chinese knife :))

1. Spyderco Endura/Delica
2. BM Griptilian
3. Kershaw Leek

I'm gonna throw the Benchmade Monochrome out there, nice frame lock folder with good blade steel (n690) for only $30 bucks.

Whatever you decide,
I assure you,
that you would be happiest,
by first owning a new single-handed-opening SAK knife,
for it's fine European quality and great all time price value!
The other remaining 9 models (whatever the brand), may then fall in line.

I don't have a single argument with any of the suggestions so far.

If I had to pick the best values for the dollar, they would include the -

Buck 110
Byrd Cara Cara
Spyderco Native
Kershaw Leek
Benchmade Griptilian

But in reality, pretty much anything made by Spyderco, Buck, Kershaw and Benchmade, represent a good value for the dollar.

Id say Spyderco or Kershaw offer the best value given the range of materials, good workmanship and price.

There are others but I think these two shine out a bit more from the rest.

In no particular order (Well..apart from the top two :D )

Benchmade Mini Griptilian
Benchmade Griptilian
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Endura
Any Alox Victorinox
Any Cellidor-handled Victorinox
Opinel No.8
Fallkniven U2
Buck 110
Spyderco Tenacious

Just in general Spyderco and Kershaw would be my opinion. Even here there are knives that sell for more than they are worth in real user value. That said, for real work and real value, Nobody has really improved much over the Buck 110. It was a good value 40+ years ago and it still is today. The same applies to Victorinox. Working knives for real working people. Regardless of the brand, IMO the best value is usually about in the middle of the price range.

SAK is by far the best bang for the buck. After that, Mercators, Douks, Opinels, Byrds, RoughRiders, Buck's China slippies and Bokers CLB stuff.

IMO, it's still the plain ol' Delica/Endura. There's great knives for less money, but there's not as much bang. There's better knives for more money, but the buck outweighs the bang. For $50 you get a true premium steel and a light, but strong knife. The Delica/Endura has long been a benchmark knife to which other knives are compared.

I also feel the Victorinox Soldier is one of the best values out there. I actually chose the Pioneer Rancher over the soldier (pruning blade instead of the canopener), but it, and any SAK is a great knife for the price. My EDC SAK is a Cybertool 29, and if you go by actual useage (not just the blade), my Cybertool gets more use than any of my other knives.

Folders?
Byrds (probably most Cara Cara and Crosbill)
SAKs (Victorinox and Wenger)

There are tons of "better" knives. But those are probably best values.

Buck 110
Alaskan Guide Buck 110 available from Cabela's
Boker Plus CLB Trance
Victorinox Swiss Army knives
Kabar Mule
Spyderco Native
Spyderco waved Endura 4
