What is currently the most popular blade of 2014?

I wouldn't say the Gerber BG knives are the MOST popular but i will say they are pretty popular especially sense gerber has ironed out all the issues with the knives and gave them a better overall quality.

No. They are popular because they are readily available, and got the name of a guy from TV on them.

They have crap over all quality, and are bought by hordes of mostly non knife junkies who don't really care. Nothing wrong with that. People don't have to be into knives and those knives work fine for them.

And a metric vboatload of them are sold.

Thoough Vic kicks their butt in sales.

The BG and other popular big box knives probably are one of the most popular (behind Victorinox, which consistently destroys the market each year.)

Precisely. They have huge volume of knife sales that has nothing to do with us and what we like and the numbers we buy. Incomparable.

Exactly. Sometimes we forget how niche we are... I'm betting sales of the Spydie PM2 are extremely small in comparison. It's not a knife most people who need a knife are going to buy. Just an example.

I've heard plenty horror stories about the BG knives being crap but I have tbh I've used and ABUSED my knife and so far it hasn't let me down at all.

I did say those knives meet tons of peoples' expectations in the post you quoted. That's why so many are sold. They work fine for lots of other people too.

I think the better question is whats the most popular/ hottest knife currently for knife enthusiasts? And not necessarily the highest selling. But what new knife that came out in 2014 has the knife nuts go damn I want that.

Maybe the ZT 0454 and/or the anniversary Charlow

If a particular knife isn't available at stores where people shop the most (WalMart, Target, Home Depot, etc.) then it cannot be the best-selling knife.

Victorinox, you can buy them anywhere and their prices are affordable to almost anyone. That's why Victorinox makes 17 million knives every year.
Our two nearest local department stores carry Buck, Gerber, Victorinox, Kershaw, and a small selection of others. If someone told me the new Bear Grylis Gerber knife was the most popular knife at WalMart, I'd believe it. And that would make it a good candidate for Most Popular Knife of the Year.

Likely so, right behind Vic. My local stores don't even have that much Gerber (which is odd as they used to) but they for sure have those Bear Grylls knives. It probably is the most popular knife at my local store, I would bet.

It is still a piece of steel, and steel is fairly good at taking abuse. The problem is that it's a mystery steel with relatively poor fit and finish and a cheap handle. If you want a cheap fixed blade to serve you well, you can get three Moras for the price of the BG fixed blade.

What is the current most popular/highest selling blade of 2014?

Popular with whom?

Teenage zombie stalking wannabe ninjas?
Ranchers?
Hunters?
Urbanites?
Suburbanites?
80 year old grandpa's?
AT thru hikers?
Backyard survivalists?
Military?
Safe Queen collectors?
Arborists?
Foresters?
Gardeners?
Lumberjacks?
Cops?
EMTs?

For what it is worth, Victorinox makes and sells more than 30 million knives each year. So I'd say SAKs are the most popular/highest selling knives of 2014.

You guys have all missed the obvious knife nearly every wannabe in Americuh wants: the Busse TGLB, made popular by Darrel of Walking Dead fame. Everybuddy wants a TGLB or whatever acronym they're called this week.

Better how? Its not what the OP asked at all.

It's also a hard question to answer, as I think the community here has gotten pretty excited about a number of models this year. I do remember one of the limited edition ZTs in particular but there have been several others.

And the community here is different from the community at other forums.

But, the whole thing is moot, because that question isn't the topic of this thread, despite what any non-OPers desire.

What is the current most popular/highest selling blade of 2014? Just another question from a curious Wookie.

I would say various SAK's, Buck 110 and assorted other low cost knives along with various budget kitchen knives.

That doesn't really change much.
