What is currently the most popular blade of 2014?

I googled production numbers of Victorinox, and came up with this on the wiki'

"In 2006 the company had a workforce of 900 employees and produced about 34,000 Swiss Army knives, 38,000 multi-tools, and 30,000 household, kitchen, and knives per workday. Approximately 90 percent of its production is exported, to more than 100 countries."

That exceeds even what I though of as huge production numbers.

How about the 50th Anniversary Buck 110? I've seen that at all the Walmarts and a ton of other stores in my area.

Credit Card Knife - the TSA has a great collection of them:D

With the way "big box" knife marketing has been going, I predict that the most popular knife of next year will be the Gerber "Duck Dynasty Series" featuring "realtree" blade patterns.

I wouldn't say the Gerber BG knives are the MOST popular but i will say they are pretty popular especially sense gerber has ironed out all the issues with the knives and gave them a better overall quality.

I think it's more along the lines that they are hanging on hooks in every store in every state, and a few next to the gum by the register.

So, per non-BF-sponsor's Amazon's lists, their best-selling Top 10 pocket knives have an average price of less than $12 each.

You might recognize some brands (Schrade, SOG, Smith and Wesson, Gerber) but not others (Wartech?). You could buy all 10 for about the price of a single PM2.

This is not a representative sample of total purchases, and it is likely US-biased, but there is not a single Spyderco, Benchmade, Victorinox or Kershaw in the top 50. Buck makes an appearance in the mid-20s, Case in the 30s.

I don't want to post a non-approved link, but I found the list by googling "amazon best sellers pocket knives."

I can say definitively that the Gerber BG series is not the best selling knife at WM or any other big box. I could kill this conversation and tell you that cheap, no-name knives sell better than anything, but I'll play ball. In no particular order, our most popular knives are the Kershaw Cryo, Kershaw Shuffle, Buck 110, and the Gerber Miniparaframe. I apologize if this isn't as exciting as you were hoping.

With good reason. The Cryo platform is excellent in the budget range. And I knew the bottle opener and $14 price tag would make the Shuffle an instant hit

It made me happy to see that, in spite of the perceived lower quality of WM's items, the Cryo and 110 can still win out. You just can't say no to a great knife.

You work simultaneously for all big box stores everywhere? Nice. :D

I bet those cheapo "gift" sets from Buck, Winchester, and the others are right among the highest selling knives over the holidays. WalMart sells the heck out 'em. Looked at them myself the other day, having always wanted a traditional Buck pocketknife, hoping for a set that contained 300-series pocketknives or 500-series lockbacks. But alas the gift sets were composed entirely of imports.

I just picked up a factory second Buck 301... one of the few quite small knives I have, and one of only two multi-bladed knives I have; it's been great.

Looking to fix this for you next year.

Thank goodness no. Have you looked at the knife selection at Kmart and Target?

Actually no, I haven't been to either one in a few years... closest ones are a bit of a drive away. What is popular there these days, in terms of pocket knives?

If there was a gift set with the 301 and 302 in non-standard handles, I'd of been all over it. Or the 113 matched to a folder. Or the 501 and 505...

As much as I want a new Buck, I can't get excited about plywood handles. And I'm sure as heck not spending money for anything with 420J2 steel. :barf:
