What is "odd" about your knife habit?

"Some day the knife knuts will rule the world and then we'll see what the sheeple have to say", did I just think that outloud? Gotta stop doing that.

What's so odd about wearing one to bed? I always have a knife on me it's a miniature folder that hangs from my necklace.

Just curious = what kind of mini folder?

Aren't you expectin' a kid, you got more things to worry about than what I'm wearin' round my neck,:D Just kiddin there are a few different ones some gold, or gold filled, pearl, celluloid, or stamped steel, the only ones that have names are the Colonials, all the rest either have no name or it's illegible.

I think I've mentioned this before, but I'm always printing out knives on my color printer (to scale) and cutting them out to see if I like the size, etc.

My wife thinks I'm way nuts.

Well I don't know if this is a habit but I used to drop my knife (arms length away) from above and as it got to chest level try to catch it with my right hand. It would drop handle first and I'd try to catch it by the blade. Too much pressure and the blade would cut into your flesh...too little and it would slice all your fingers as it plummeted downards. I did this with my CQC7 and my AFCK and had no problem....but then one day I did it with my Tomcat...That was none too bright...got a piece of every finger 'cept my thumb...

I know it's a dumb game...but it's what I did...not anymore...

Sometimes I gather several of my knives together and create little 'plays' with each knife playing a different character (just kidding). :p :D

Actually, I often spend more time deciding which knife(s) to carry each day than I do what to wear. While in a hurry to leave, I have, at times, ran back into the house because I decided to replace the main EDC clipped to my pocket with another folder that day.

Sometimes I will pick out a knife and play with it while watching TV, etc. Now this is funny...when I went to see Training Day, I made it a point to carry my Spyderco Police because I knew it was going to be in the movie. (Same while watching The Client).

I never realized I was a knife collector until I started coming on here. I got looking through my sock drawer, where I keep all my knives except the one I am carrying. I counted 20. No customs mostly Bucks, Old Timers, 1 old Remington, 2 Ka-Bars, an old Mexican auto, and the 1 I made. It is not pretty but I made it. All are shaving sharp, even the cheapest ones. I still have the first knife my dad gave me.

My only strange habit is that I have carried the same Old timer 3 blade pocket knife for 15 years. I just bought a Kershaw Scallion a couple weeks ago and I just feel strange carrying it. It is almost like I am commiting adultery. The Scallion may end up in the sock drawer soon.

I seem to be in constant search mode for the 'next great knife' and will sell or trade any knife I own no matter how much I like it. Even those I've sworn will never be traded or sold have made the trek out of my life. Sharing the wealth, I suppose. Keeping things fresh and interesting. Turnover is more than just a basketball term around here.

I'd have to answer 'yes' tac45. Obtaining (and sharing) new and different knives is therapeutic for me, even if they don't stay with me forever. Kinda like a relationship that was great, yet short-lived. Just because it didn't last many, many years doesn't mean it was a failed marriage/relationship with no redeeming value. Too often those things are judged by years (quantity) rather than quality.

A habit that I've recently started, along with carrying a knife everywhere even to bed, is constantly sharpening my knives. I guess it can be said, that it is my way to calm down from the everyday stresses of life. It's very soothing to me when I can achieve that razor edge on my blades.;)

Got no habits, well maybe a few 'odd' things. Love looking at the edge of a blade, sometimes running my finger over it slightly. The other weird thing is I try to view the blade from every possible angle and viewpoint. My favorite view is when the blade is facing me, edge or point.

Sometimes when I get nervous I put my knives under my arms... and I smell 'em like this...
That's bad.
:p

Dunno if this is odd, but I like my knives s-h-a-r-p! I am constantly touching up my blades or those of my sons. I own freehand, Spyderco, and Edgepro systems, plus a carbide steel and a strop.

The knives in the kitchen are off limits because the wife tends to cut herself on the knives (I just touched it and it cut me).

Last weekend, my mother-in-law was waving her hand around (without looking) and nicked her hand on the Cuda EDC my son was closing. I examined the little nick on the back of her hand and exclaimed "nice and clean".

I have several knives, none over $100.

My thing is to find a good knife and buy lots of them.

I am aiming for 10 Moras and 10 Opinels. As a survivalist I see these extras as insurance; there are so many poor knives out there and so very few places to get knives localy (though more than rural areas).

My odd thing besides the above is my lack of trust for new knives. Many people like the CRKT knives, I have a Stiff MDP knife and find the steel lacking, yet i love my $10 Moras and Opinels. Just brought a Schrade Sharpfinger and it may be my next collectable.

BTW All my survival and bug out kits are stocked with Moras and SAKs. The Opinels are for everyday pocket carry.

Oh, I have a much loved and abused Spyderco Endura I recently got back from the factory after edge refinishing; now it sits in my drawer as an 'end of the world' knife as I don't want to ruin the edge again. They cost $90 here in Canada.

I too, have been known to run back to the house to change blades, sometimes from across town. I also feel the need to explain almost every knife purchase to my girlfriend.....the subtle variations between the LCC's, the differences between this DA and the two I got last week.....garden variety rationalization and justification.

Thanks all for helping me realize that I dont quite have the oddest knife habits!;)

How about secretly wishing that the bozo at work who says "Hey gimme that friggin' knife of yours for a minute would drop Fluffy 'er I mean my Endura tip down on his foot. There is also my habit of checking Fred Perrin's website EVERY BLOODY DAY FOR THE PAST YEAR FOR NEW STUFF!!! ahem, and not finding any updates. Then there are the voices coming from the cabinet drawer late late at night........

Yobbos, voices coming from the cabinet drawer at night! Man you are crazy. No way the knives are talking. Seek help man. Everyone knows its the guns in the drawer.
