What is the 940 or PM2 of the traditional world?

But the OP wants to know what specific knives are popular, along with: "Long-ish blade(s), efficient size and weight, quality materials, and availability." So he's not about pattern.
I just used those as examples as they're about the most popular / ubiquitous.
I could have said what's the sodbuster of the modern knife world.

I know, but the converse of his question is "What is the GEC Churchill or the Case/Bose Premium Stockman of the modern world?" He's calling out two specific knives by two specific companies, not a pattern made by many.

Thanks for the link, David. :)
I haven't visited that thread for a while, so I hadn't seen your post on doctoring a 40-year-old mare's foot. Looks like a mission of mercy that's gotta be quite time-consuming! Plaudits to you for taking it on!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Yeesh, I never expected mentioning two specific knives would cause so much ruckus.

I just meant what are the two staple recommendations for EDC blades for someone looking for a general purpose primary knife. I wasn't looking for any specific attributes other than the mentioned longish blade, quality, and available.

You guys have given me some ideas, I appreciate that input.
