What is the appeal of OTF knives?

They are the only automatic design that I am aware of that can safely deploy a double edged blade. This adds a new dimension of legality.

Boker makes a knife they call, I think, the Bokermatic, blade slides out the front by action of your thumb, no springs attached. Stays open by virtue of a pivoting scale on the handle. Blade is somewhat loose when open, a sort of light (key word) duty utility pocketknife, nothing jazzy in the least. Remember the old-tyme Christie front-opening gent's pocket knife that your uncle had? They still have a website, or at least did last time I looked. Classy little thing.

I had NO interest in a OTF until I handled one at the Lewisburg Knife Show. That was it!

I have to admit that I first had interest in otf's for the cool factor. Had one fo the old NATO ones that ended up "exploding" when i dropped it. Years down the road, I picked up the Infidel. Nice knife but I am unsure of it being too well for hard use. Army friend took his overseas and somehow managed to break it. He says it was a knife failure, but it could have been operator error.

If they were legal all over, I would give it some pocket time.
