What is the best EDC for under $40 bucks, rat 1 vs spyderco tenacious?

If you like Green on Black, try to find one of these rare beauties:

That thing looks beautiful, what kind of kershaw is that?

I am kind of leaning towards the rat 1 again, the od green/black combo is growing on me, but anyway i am going to think about it for a little while and order something tomorrow, and see what everyone else in here comes up with.

No more thinking, DO IT! You won't regret it man. A year from now and tons more spent on other knives and you'll still be carrying that Rat-1, I guarantee it.

I want to but the decisions are tearing me apart on what to do! I bought a kershaw skyline earlier, then canceled my order because a little while later I was already changing my mind!

USA Zings are getting hard to find, period. The link I posted is pretty much the only place to still find them. All the current Zings are made in China and assisted.

I appreciate them both for what they are (great affordable deals) but I ultimately went the way of the RAT. On a side note, I'm not particularly fond of flipper or assisted knives however I just bought a Kershaw Thermite because...well I couldn't resist how cool it looks! It's in the same ballpark as the Tenacious & RAT 1. I figure if I end up liking it I'll deassist it and live with the flipper. (or cut it off )

above suggestions are all good. if you don't mind slightly smaller knife, may I recommend Spyderco Cat. I personally like Cat more than Tenacious for better steel, ergo, & more edc friendly size.

As in all such discussions I feel obliged to mention the BRK/ESEE Zancudo and the Ka-Bar Dozier.

If it is really 100% down to RAT 1 vs. Tenacious I would choose the RAT 1 any day of the week.

The Tenascious is a $15 knife. Literally. It's made by Sanrenmu and in my experience is not worth $40. I wouldn't pay over $20 for anything that came out of Sanrenmu. Ontario's liners are tougher and last longer, and their AUS8 is quite a bit better than Sanrenmu/Spyderco's CRMOV, despite having similar compositions.

Aside from that I hate the spider hole. It's slower to open and catches stuff occasionally when cutting.

I like (love actually) my Ontario Utilitac II. It's worth checking out if you want a beefier folder.

Rat-1 all the way. You can beat the crap out of it and it just takes it. I used my rat 1 daily at work for over two years. The AUS-8 steel takes a great edge and holds up very well. Unless im really beating on it I just hit it with a strop and its good to go. Ive just recently (about three months ago) started using my rat-2 at work. That thing is just as tough. They are great knives and hands down worth twice if not more than the 25-30 bucks youll pay for one. I also have the tenacious and yes its a great knife but for a hard worker the rat wins in my opinion.

I like the Tenacious but I have never handled a RAT-1. Spyderco's opening hole works great with gloved hands. This is important to me since I live in WI.

All things considered and owning both, I would pick the RAT-1. It's no slight to the Tenacious, the RAT just feels better to my hand and seems built sturdier. YMMV.

Right there is the one I was talking about earlier, the green and black combo looks sweet, although I can't find one for any less than 36.99, any idea where it is cheaper?

Eelectri, (cool name btw) that's a great picture. I often mention the Rat in knife threads on other non-knife forums, would it be cool if I used that photo? It's much better than any stock photo. I would credit you of course.
