What is the best EDC for under $40 bucks, rat 1 vs spyderco tenacious?

Right there is the one I was talking about earlier, the green and black combo looks sweet, although I can't find one for any less than 36.99, any idea where it is cheaper?

Not really. The colored handles just cost more. Now, if you wanted to pick up, say a green, brown and gray rat from Knifeworks you'd get free shipping and pay just under $30/ea. :D

Thanks for that, I found the OD green for 4 bucks cheaper on there, 31.95 or something like that

Spyderco is my favorite brand, hands down, but I liked my Rat 1 way more than I thought I would. Super solid lock up with a great 'click' when it opens, nice fit and finish, good ergonomics... just a really fine blade for the $. If you decide to go Spyderco, I would keep an eye on the exchange, where you can catch a lightly used FRN-handled Spydie for $40 on occasion.

I have RAT 1's and a Tenacious, I prefer the RAT 1 because it has thumbstuds and I prefer the handle shape.

Another line in your price range you might check out, is the Ontario Utilitac II knives.

I would pick the tenacious (or resilience which I like more) over the rat 1 but if you are looking for the best folders under $40 dont count out some of the cold steel voyagers, they are also top contenders.

I'm surprised to see the Kershaw Thermite barely mentioned! It is without a doubt the best current budget EDC in my opinion (at least from a reputable company). Your on the right path with the Rat 1 as the other option but don't even bother with the Tenacious. It'd be between the Rat 1 or Thermite for me (which BTW I have a Thermite arriving tomorrow)! Goodluck with whatever you do choose though.

Alright, I got $48 bucks left on a mastercard i got for christmas that i want to use up, is there any chance I could find a delica for that price?

Just curious, what features of the Delica do you like?

I had one and disliked it. It was slow opening, the spider hole caught stuff while cutting, the handles felt incredibly cheap, and I hate having to use two hands to close a knife. In addition I don't like lockbacks as they lose lockup when they begin to wear, unlike liner locks.

Yeh, the lock back kind of turns me off a little bit, i forgot that that was a lock back, that is why that wasn't my initial choice and you just reminded me that... I think I'll keep looking at other choices again

If I had $48, I'd spend it on a Dragonfly 2 anyway...yes it's a lock back but, I prefer it over the Delica. I have huge hands and can comfortably hold it and, it can handle almost any EDC task.

yeh, I'm not too sure about lock backs, never really had much luck with them and id rather have a line lock, I think I am going to go with a tenacious instead, I like that it has a better name than the competitors
