What is the best edc knife under $30?

A certain large Internet based center for knives has them on sale for 7$ above your stated budget.

This definitely. Loveeee my tenacious. I have the black/black one. Steel is easy to sharpen and it had great ergonomics and grip with g10. Blade lock up is solid and there is no play in the blade at all.

I suggest buying from amazon. I do buy from bladehq every so often to support their company , but amazon will have cheaper prices. Id also suggest getting an amazon prime account . They're $99 but well worth it. You get free 2 day shipping on every purchase or $4 1 day shipping. I love it. Just ordered a SOG flashII for $44 and paid $4 for one day shipping so I'll have it tomorrow afternoon. If you order lots of stuff online it's a no brainer to get prime unless you really don't mind waiting a week for your purchase. Also you get a whole crapload of free streaming tv shows and music with prime, it's just like netflix.
 
The mini recon 1's 3 inch blade is pretty inoffensive--the full size is a different story.

Where is the opinel in that video? Having both Id put it over the buck.
EDC for around $30 get a becker eskabar if carrying a fixed blade is legal where you live. Wont find a stronger or easier/faster to deploy folder at any price and 1095 cro/van will hold an edge as well or better as the 440c, aus8s or 8crorwhatevers out there.
If you are looking for a folder only, I just got a kershaw chill that I really like, EDC one of their new Zings, and carried a Timberline that I found in a bag of hidry for years until I got tired of the combo egde that put up with a lot.
 
Ontario RAT 2 is my pick as well. Also, five more bucks and you can get a Skyline with the 14C28N steel.

Yes, the Mini Recon 1 can be had at a special price right now of $37, or so. I have one and it is excellent. The reason I did not mention it was because of the $30 limit.

I know it's a lot to look at but it's worth it. Maybe consider picking up a couple. I highly recommend the Leek and Skyline Blems.
 
Looking at the cold steel mini recon 1. It has the same blade material as the rat models. Is it worth the extra $10.
 
If you care about the lock being over-built, then yes. It is my preference. I carry it everyday as well.
