What is the best Fixed blade?

You'll spend a bit more (unless you get lucky and get one second-hand), but the Bravo-1 is my choice. And Bark River has a no-questions warranty. Even if you admit that you abused their knife, they'll make it right - I know from first-hand experience. This one pictured is my "Winter Bravo" (and it's just about time to break her out) and I don't hesitate to beat the heck out of it - no worries, mate:

You're recommending shovels from China with links to AliExpress and your correcting Aias for recommending a great knife that is over budget? Get a clue Mr. Wong!!

OP "but my budget only runs about to about 120$."

That what the OP required, not me......now he raise the price and open up more options.

Maybe I should have said something better than multipurpose tool. What I mean by "multipurpose tool" is a knife capable of doing a variety of tasks as i said before the knife I use as a standard is the hand forged Kukris of Napal that are used as everyday tools there for just about everything from farming to hunting, That's what I meant by a multipurpose tool.

These words are interpreted as the OP asking for a KNIFE! Not a shovel or whatever else you are thinking.

It's a shovel with KNIFE, and under $120, and fit multipurpose tool requirements.
While not a KNIFE only, but I don't see any knife only type will satisfy the OP.

If someone asked for a $30folder, I would said $28 Buck 110 from Walmart, not my Sebbies doesn't matter how much I love it.

Lol I appreciate the ideas dwong but the axe you just showed me is a price no sane person would EVER pay for any type of axe, knife, or shovel, not to mention it's made by a custom knife maker I've never even heard of.With 700$ i could probably buy a full dream kit filled with every tool i could ever want.

Thanks G&B; my thinking was just as you thought--give TheBushWookie some choices that could inform and, in terms of the Swamp Rat/ Scrapyard, come close to fitting his needs/budget... and if he should decide that infi was the better way to go, so be it. My TGLB is great; I hardly use my other fixed blades now.

dwong--thanks for your help with deciphering what the op said, but don't worry about me... I can read just fine.

Your suggestions are not what the OP is looking for, so I will try to help you understand. He is looking for a Knife. Not a shovel with a knife on it, or a Flashlight with a knife on it, or a screwdriver with a knife on it, or an axe.. Just a knife. A knife that can be used for different types of tasks. Not a multitool, Just a knife.

Also your sebenza statement makes no sense. It's not about price or the OP's price range for knives. Its about suggesting knives that fit the knives he would consider. If you carefully read the words he types you will see that he is looking for a knife to be used for different knife related tasks.

SO... What is the OP looking for? C'mon lets say it together Mr. Wong... "A Knife"

Try reading OP's post before responding with a bunch of crap that he would never buy.

No prob..Yup.. love the Infi. SR101 isn't my favorite for high moisture environments, but they do make some serious slabs of steel. That old school regulator impressed me. When I first saw it I just saw a tactical blade. But after holding it I was blown away at how thick the blade was and how it could be used in many applications.

Agreed G&B; I'm lovin that bad boy... and even with that thick spine, it takes a fine, sharp edge

then again, sometimes the edge on my axe does too

OP--maybe a Becker bk7, or even a 9 might be an excellent alternative

What knife isn't capable if multiple tasks?

A butter knife can be a screwdriver, paint scraper, pill cutter, spatula, spoon, electrical conductor, light duty pry bar...etc.

ALL knives are multi-purpose tools.

This isn't that difficult.. If you read the post you will see he is looking for knives that perform well in a variety of ways. Obviously all knives are multitools and its better to use a system with dedicated saws, pry bars and axes.. So what I did was use the brain in my head to conclude that all knives can be used in a myriad of ways, but there are some that I would recommend over others. Are you recommending a butter knife? I didn't think so. So why not spend your time making good suggestions instead of whatever it is you're trying to proclaim?

Better than ESEE or Bark River?

I don't know for sure, but I will say that it can't get any better than Buck for warranty. Its literally a no questions asked replacement. And they will let you choose other items of equal retail value instead of the exact knife you are returning. I compare it to Craftsman at Sears but even better customer service. Sears doesn't worry about specific reasons why it broke. They just give you a new ratchet without any questions for the lifetime that you own it. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Overall I'm actually really happy I made this post because it's given me some interesting suggestions so far, hell ever Mr. Wong gave me some interesting ideas. If I look at all of the replies so far I have a few choices 1: I could choose a knife based on majority vote of the thread which in this case would be the Busse TGLB, 2: I could choose based on overall internet reviews by researching each and every single knife suggested here and make my decision on the general opinion on each knife, and 3: I could simply look at each knife suggested and choose which ever one I think I will enjoy the most.

The Becker bk7 and 9 may work for you. They are in budget, and are plenty strong with a great warranty as well. I've got a 9 and absolutely love it. It out chops my (lame) hatchet, batons great, and does smaller knife chores very well (feather sticks, tent pegs, etc). I haven't ever tried prying with it though. Each of those is 3/16in thick.

The bk1 is discontinued, so prices carry, but its a full 1/4in thick and about 9in long, so that could work.

Also perhaps the Ontario rd series of knives? They are all 1/4in thick 5160 iirc, and run quite a bit softer in the rc scale, so they should be plenty tough. They are also all in your budget.

Good luck with whatever you do :).

Ideally I would like to either get the Kukri I've wanted for a long time from Himalayan Imports or thanks to this thread a Busse TGLB but they're just abit too far out of my price range so I've worked out a compromise, out of the thread I've selected the Ontario SP8 to be my all around work horse and I'll pickup a smaller fixed blade (preferably something around the size of the Tops BOB) to be my main line tool.

The system approach is always better than a one knife for all. Then you don't compromise function in a bunch of important areas. All you need now is a Bahco lapander folding saw for around $25-$30 and you have a great system.

-SP8 for chopping, splitting, etc..
-Laplander for sawing
-Tops BOB for buschcraft.

You should definitely note that because you are now going with a system, there are many other options for you to consider as far as the chopper and bushcraft knife. If you are price conscious you could get a $30 axe and a Condor Bushlore for around $35. Or as wong mentioned a Mora robust is only $15 and a great bushcraft option. Other reasonably priced options are an Ontario Rat 5, Becker Bk2, Cold Steel Master Hunter. This list goes on and on. The one definite for me is the Bahco saw. Its light and saws like a beast. The Chopper and Bushcraft I would recommend searching the forum for past threads and making a decision for each. Also a little Key chain pry bar is great for under $10. I have a Gerber shard on my keychain and it saves the tips of my folders on a daily basis.

Heres a video of the SP8 for you. I thought it was pretty cool.
