What is the best Fixed blade?

IMO the best fixed blade is a good 4-5" leuku from a Scandinavian maker.

But for urban life in general it would be the original DPx HEST forged by Rowen. It has a dedicated pry tool. Tip problems solved. The HEST II's have one too but I prefer the one on the original knife.

The best fixed blade knife is a sharp one that you trust will not let you down when you need it.

Is a knife suppose to be used as a pry bar?

A knife is supposed to be used as a knife. If the user is in a position where he needs a pry bar and doesn't have one, he may use his knife as a pry bar. The knife might survive or might not. I have an older knife that my father used when he was a mechanic and the tip is broken off of one of the blades, so in that case the knife didn't survive. He probably could have walked back into the shop and gotten a screwdriver or small pry bar but he didn't. In some situations some people might not have the option of going back to get another tool so they might have to go ahead and use the knife as a pry bar.

A survival knife is supposed to be used for anything it takes to help you survive, including being used as a pry bar.

Even in a survival situation I really think a $5 mini pry bar from a hardware department is a better way to go. I can't think of many times in the woods where I'd need to pry. You can build wedges and other things you need.

In an urban environment I could that mini pry or things in the area. I'm not knocking the idea of using a knife in that way, but your tools are going to be your life. You have to take care of them.

For the prybar there's a finnish store, called varusteleka, selling a "skrama" knife which should take just about anything. Then there's the ka-bar warthog with it's super thick and wide blade 😲
