What IS the best Fixed blade?

In my opinion I think when you use the word 'best' it all comes down to usage factor. For hunting I'm sure a lot of fellow users will say a lot of the fixed blades by Schrade USA.The mass majority of their fixed blades was full tang construction, solid, comfortable, and built for the purpose...can't go wrong with the old Schrade's.And I'm sure Sharpfinger fans will chime in on this.

In folders the very best I'd say two brands and both are discontinued.First is the Lone Wolf Knives as certain models had good blade shapes for skinning and cleaning like the Laredo.Secondly my personal favorites the Pioneer II in a upswept point and the deeply swedged clip-point of the Carnivore Cub(designed by Pat Crawford) by REKAT.There are good blade shapes to compete with Lone Wolf but REKAT's Rolling Lock made a pretty tough knife for harder use as a long time fan and user.

And of course toss in a Kabar Becker BK-2. :D You know, the knife that I still think as really cool, but I never use it. Maybe when the world collapses around us, I will choose the BK-2 to be my go to.

Thats a pretty subjective question. It all depends on what use and then your personal hand size for comfort, blade length, all those things make it a very personal choice. I would look at what steel you want or like first. From there you can move to maker, blade length, shape etc. Personally I like Infi, 3v, s35vn, Elmax, sr101, 52100, 1095 and pretty much in that order. Those steels will all serve very well in pretty much any configuration you like.

I was half joking but serious in my pick. These threads always seem to evoke milk-toast responses, so I thought I would have a little fun with it.

And a 7 course meal? Who eats like that? :D

I agree, but the BK9 is one of those "This is the best knife for this price" that the OP was referring to.

Sorry, missed the joking aspect! I LIKE to eat like that, just wish I had the time and money to do it more often!

This blade looks pretty well fixed.

Maybe it could be fixed better, but I doubt it is the BEST fixed blade. ;)

God damn it I knew I forgot something lol here I am wondering where the hell is marcinek and I didn't turn on the marcSIGNAL.
You didn't turn on the MarcSignal. The best fixed blade is this...

But I don't have $2,000 laying around to burn

Without any reference the word "Best" is nothing more than a hollow phrase.

Is this going to be one of those threads where the OP asks a question but argues about the answers he gets?

I always enjoy watching knife reviews but when I do the person doing the review always says something that bugs me which is "For the price this is an amazing knife" or "This is the best knife for this price" (or something similar to those 2 phrases) even when the knife itself is fairly expensive and top quality, it makes it sound like if you had more money they already know of a better knife. After thinking about it it got me curious and finally brought me to this question. If you had any amount of money what would truly be the best knife?

P.S. while I preferably want to hear about fixed blades hence the title I don't mind hearing about folders if they are really good.

You have missed the point, wookie. Those revues are not about the knife, they are about the revuer. They like to ay "best" or "worste." Essentially, they are entertainers, doing a knife skit.

Being able to function in a variety of situations from bushcraft to kitchen work is one quality that makes a good knife. I'm upping the ante here, no one has thought of knife "Kits" yet like the KaBar adventure series that comes with the little neck knife or the gerber giant Box that comes with their Myth line of knives and other tools
