  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What is the best (least expensive) knife you've had?

Mora, Opinel, Cold Steel's "Krupp" series (their new Peace Makers are especially impressive budget knives), and Kershaw's Chinese lineup.

One of the best cheap knives I own is my Opinel 112 3.75" paring knife. Comes in a 2pk for <$15 (so let's say $8/each) and can totally prep a meal then cut my food while I'm eating.

Browning Ice Storm . . . an aluminum-handled Mcusta with a VG-10 blade licensed to Browning. I paid $29.95 brand new for mine. :)

Yep - almost forgot about those. I had two variations back in the day (the yellow and red ones in the pic, obviously):

Cheap?...... Well if playing by the rules (cheap being retail price, not secondary market score price)
I'd have to say for the price, a spyderco tenacious is a bad little mama jamma

Opinel and SAK are my best cheap knives.... Less than 20€ and very good at what they are made for

SAK Classic i got 2ndhand only for approximately 2 USD
Opinel is kind of pricey in my country here, about 30ish USD for #08, so my better least expensive is Ontario RAT model 1 which I got for about 45ish USD

Most recent best deals were a couple deals for different stockman knives.

Craftsman 9473 stockman for $15 shipped just before Christmas. A rebadged Schrade/Ulster 89. Excellent steel. This is my EDC pocket knife.

I also recently paid less than $20 shipped for this Schrade Walden 834 but don't carry it.

I have to equate best with most often used and most useful - and for folders that would be Opinel. They are the workhorses in my kitchen. A #6, #8 and #10 with the #10 getting most of the work.

For fixed blades - I have been using a Condor Hudson Bay to split smaller pieces of wood and make kindling for the fireplace. Not an inexpensive fixed blade, but by no means high end. But it is a functional design with decent steel that more than pulls its weight.

Cheapest decent folder was the Semranu 710.....but the Rat 1 and 2 can take a beating. I love them!
