If you like the Spyderco, check out the Fallkniven U1!

I would have to say Vic if it is bang for the buck.

My favorite higher end traditionals.
Schatt & Morgan file and wire.
Case/Bose collaborations (my very most favorite)
Case Classics
Cripple Creek
Winchester (the ones that Blue Ridge distributes made by Queen)
On the other hand I also love to find old knives and use them.
There is something about that carbon steel in antiques that I still love after all these years and some of those old knives still have superior fit, finish walk and talk that can put modern knives to shame.

I forgot about Cripple Creek.I had a chance to buy a set of barlows once.I wish I had. Instead I bought a Hen & Rooster Bertram stag canoe which is nice in itself. The tangs are even finished on it.I have a Bertram H&R that a norfork whittler that is superb quality also.

I have a few Case-Bose collaboration knives, in ATS-34! Every one is great! Good fit, and perfect springs, and, factory sharp!

Ive got one, a muscrat, and am really wanting the locking whittler. They are very well made knives.

A lovely knife indeed! - from a fellow scandinavian country:p

I really like mine - very solid little knife. I know of one Fallkniven aficionado that cleaned a deer with one.
Considering how outstanding the fit and finish is, it is actually a bargain as well. I am really looking forward to the models with the various handle scales.

Out of about thirty Canal Streets that I have I only had a problem with one Wildcat that had some grit between the blades. All the others have excellent fit and finish.(Bob, I do have one giraffe bone swing guard that I'll have to look at more closely, it's more a display piece so I haven't really given it a good once over). The reverse gunstock jack is especially imressive, and they just came out with a canittler that's D-2 steel.

I only have two CSC knives, so I can't say which is more typical of that brand's products. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of their knives if I had some reassurance the quality would be on par with the Ring Opener.

You might be interested in this review comparing the Swing Guard knives from AG Russell and Canal Street. It'll perhaps give you a base for your examination.

Case for very reliable quality

Great Eastern has impressed me, 3 out of 3 knives

Canal St Trapper I have is a looker but the snap is pathetic, wobble too

Queen offers but doesn't quite deliver in consistency, my Schatt&Morgan Premier English Jack is unsusual and attractive but has far too many gaps, my Rough Rider 'beaters' don't have gaps so S&M shouldn't either!

Weidmannsheil knives are worth looking into as well.

Out there somewhere is a heart-stopping knife..we are all looking and sometimes we find it, the excitement of the chase!

I have the same problem. I'm too picky. Case is the standby for me also. Thanks for the other tips. I've thought of picking up a Canal St.,but from what I've been reading here I don't think I will. Same for Queen and S/M.
I've seen the Weidmansheils in SMKW and think to myself they look like quality.A bit large maybe. Got any good picks of one?
I'm ready to bite onto a Mooremaker, either the stockman or trapper. They look reasonable.

There have been some posted complaints about MooreMaker recently; especially regarding those that were made by Camillus just before it closed.

I'd definitely be looking at a Canal Street or Schatt & Morgan if I were in your position.
