What is the better choice in knife?

Hello gents. I am new to this forum. I have been thinking about buying a new extremely tough EDC tactical knife. I was thinking about a ZT 0560BW or a ZT 0301. But, I am not sure about the ZT 0560BW strength/blade shape also the one titanium side won't rip a part my pocket. I love the looks of the ZT 0301, and the strength of it knife. But, the fatness of the blade and the weight makes me hesitant. I have also looked at the strider SMF-T but, tbh just seems to expensive to me. I am looking for a tactical heavy use blade, preferably Tanto, between 3.75inches and 4 inches of blade. 4 ounces to maybe 6 ounches and comfortable EDC, but extremely tough and "tactical". Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks,

Gideon

If tough is what you're looking for, you want to look at a Cold Steel Recon 1 or AK-47. More expensive knives are cool and all, but they're just not as good as far as toughness and performance are concerned. People buy them because they're more expensive and for perceived cool factor.

I currently own a mini recon 1. But, the rough G-10 rips apart the pocket. The finish comes off the blade way to easy, and not the fastest at deploying. But, I do like the strength of the knife. The AK-47 seems to have a small blade 3.5 inches for the weight, handle shape seems weird, blade shape is meh and the "wave" feature seems not overall that great at catching the pocket. My thoughts on the gold steel recon 1 and ak-47 haha.

Check out the ZT0620 and ZT0620CF. Very tough, ready for anything and Tanto style blade. I carry a ZT0620CF often and beat the snot out of it. One of my favorite knives ever made!

I heard the pivot was insanely tight and even hard to deploy via thumb stud? Is that true?

where do you find 0560 with aluminum?

Not on mine, I have a 0620 and 062cf and they are both quick and easy to open. They do have a little stiffer detent than some other makers but I like that so ymmv

have you ever tried hard use, like batoning etc?

sorry for my typo... Titanium side with aluminum in it.

I don't think the 3D machined ti will rip apart your pocket. if anything, the g10 side scale feels gripier but still not ripping. The only down side I see with 560/561, as many folks have pointed out, is the blade behind the edge is a bit too thick, thus making the knife a less optimal slicer. Other than that, it is definitely a solid, smooth, hefty, and beautiful tactical knife.

The 0560 is plenty strong and won't rip apart your jeans, certainly less than g10 and no more than the 0301. Both good knives with very different blade shapes. Consider that the 0301 is assisted, on washers, while the 0560 is manual on caged ball bearings.

I prefer the 0560, but both are super high quality and well worth secondary market prices.

Interesting. I heard issues of models after hard use the lock becoming extremely hard to dis-engage(sticking). I also heard the lock up has changed. Any comments/thoughts/experiences with that?

All titanium on steel frame locks can stick if a lot of pressure is put on the lock, it's called galling. The lock up might move over some, but it won't affect safety, in fact I'm in the camp of thinking late lock up is better to a point. Either way, both of those issues are basically nullified by the lock bar insert on newer models of each, and you probably won't use them in a way that makes either happen anyway.

I've done abusive stuff with an 0560, like throwing, prying, and such, with no real lock issues. Either knife will be strong enough for any normal use, and most "hard use" which rarely is necessary in reality.

You do not want to be batoning with a folder. You may eventually develop unwanted blade play at lockup. [emoji33]

I do not wish to baton with a folder. I know it is extremely hard on the blade, but for me it is important that the knife does have the capability. Most likely if I am going to baton with a folder, or extreme hard use it is a very serious situation which I need to know if the knife will fail me when I need it most.
