What is the better choice in knife?

Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto in CTS-XHP steel
4 inch blade, 4 ounces in weight, super tough tri-ad lock

Hello gents. I am new to this forum. I have been thinking about buying a new extremely tough EDC tactical knife. I was thinking about a ZT 0560BW or a ZT 0301. But, I am not sure about the ZT 0560BW strength/blade shape also the one titanium side won't rip a part my pocket. I love the looks of the ZT 0301, and the strength of it knife. But, the fatness of the blade and the weight makes me hesitant. I have also looked at the strider SMF-T but, tbh just seems to expensive to me. I am looking for a tactical heavy use blade, preferably Tanto, between 3.75inches and 4 inches of blade. 4 ounces to maybe 6 ounches and comfortable EDC, but extremely tough and "tactical". Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks,

Gideon

Seems like it may be my best option. It is more than 4 ounches but still XD Has anybody ever EDC a ZT 0301?

Honestly, I really do like the ZT 300 series. The blade is thick and wide, which makes it less than ideal for stabbing... But how is it stabbing capabilities? The knife weighs 8 ounces, has anybody edc this blade to know how it feels in the pocket? Thanks.

It stabs fine. I've never used it for stabbing anything other than maybe a plastic bottle, tree, or pumpkin for the heck of it.

It is wide and heavy. I didn't mind carrying it, but it is definitely noticeable in the pocket for both weight and size.

The 0560 is plenty strong and won't rip apart your jeans, certainly less than g10 and no more than the 0301. Both good knives with very different blade shapes. Consider that the 0301 is assisted, on washers, while the 0560 is manual on caged ball bearings.

I prefer the 0560, but both are super high quality and well worth secondary market prices.

Yes, the Ti side is the pocket side on rh carry and will not shred the pocket. I have over $10k of knives ad still carry my 0560 quite a bit.

Stabbing? Ok..go with 0620. It was built with stabbing in mind. It also has the wave feature so it's much faster to deploy than the others mentioned...if that's what you're looking for.

The 300 series is heavy, and will create marks on your jeans, but it is only a couple of oz heavier than most "hard use" folders. I would recommend a 2nd hand deep carry clip, their are quite a few on the auction site. I EDC'ed for a few months and it was not that bad but definitley heavier than most common EDC knives. I like that...

Another suggestion are the Lionsteel SR1A knives. Not as heavy as the ZTs, every bit as tough and won't sgred your pockets.

How much do used Strider SMF-T cost?
I don't know, but I'd suggest looking up the background of "Mick Strider" as well as the quality control and warranty issues before purchasing one.
Does the 0560 have the same lock as this model of 0550 ( I know there are different generations etc etc)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW0TVkcBFkw because holy. that knife took a beating.
Yeah. I think there's a little more titanium left in the cutout of the 0560 but the 0550 has thicker stock. Might be wrong.

But, really close in strength? Because if so, I am going to pull the trigger on the ZT 0560 for $185 (is that a good price)?

Yeah, definitely close.

Yeah, pretty good. They come up for ~$160 on the exchange relatively often, but I haven't looked in a while.

If I am completely honest, as you can probably tell my "survival knowledge" is limited lol. Which is why I was kinda hoping for a super strong blade to make up for some of my ignorance lol. Nutnfancy was just an example :P Just wondering, in your opionon is it a big loss that the 0620 doesn't have the Rick Hinderer lock bar stabilizer like the 0560 does? Thank you for your input sir.

Neither a strong blade nor nutnwhatever will make up for lack of knowledge.

Either of the ZTs will make for an excellent choice.

But again, neither will keep you out of or get you out of these survival situations you are so worried about. Only smarts will.
