What is the biggest thickness of a pocket knife you could bring yourself to carry.

just traded a new 757 Vicar for a Adamas. The G10 on the Vicar was like petrified velcro it was so rough! I tore the top off a right rear pocket in ONE pull! The Adamas is nice n smooth

the 757 is a tank! Just couldnt get past that G10 oh and the blades on the two knives are almost identical so its no real loss

Thickest knife I carry is the BM Adamas, not counting the pocket clip it's 0.75" thick, count the pocket clip and it's pushing 0.875". I didn't get it to be EDC-ed, but it made its way into my rotation and for some reason I can't stop carrying it. Tactical pants do help on the thickness, it doesn't take up the whole pocket when the pocket is designed to have a knife in it.

For a blade it would be the Dua or HEST 2.0 folders. I think the HEST is slightly thicker steel.

For overall, probably my '70's Victorinox Champion. It's right at the point of convergence: In the wild it's in my pocket but if I urban-EDC it, it's usually in a belt pouch.

For a pocket carry edc knife, a Delica/Caly/Endura are about what I want to carry. If I am outdoors hiking or fishing, that is another matter.

Tactical pants no fair!! :D

:D one good thing about not having a dress code at work. I might get some eye-rolls from coworkers but carrying 2 knives, a pen, and a flashlight on top of the usual wallet/keys/phone is worth it. Plus my black/khaki Vertx can double as dress slacks in semi-formal wear due to their hidden pocket design.

Bond. James Bond.

Depends on my pants.
Work pants or sweats I don't mind a bulkier knife
Jeans I like em a bit slimmer
Dress pants I like em sleak with as little a profile as possible

I figured out maybe a year or two ago that excessive handle thickness was one of my biggest barriers to carrying knives, so I've become pretty obsessive about keeping everything below 0.50". Luckily the trend is swinging back in my favor, but I am trying to make myself more open to carrying thicker knives because I am sure there are ones out there that I would love everything else about but the handle thickness. I bought a Boker Plus Sulaco after Ram passed away (RIP), which is at a 0.60" handle thickness. We'll see how well I adjust to carrying that.

Thanks for all the input guys :) I like a thin knife myself. And yes, I do mean overall thickness. I have an idea for a design I want to do, and I know that it's going to have to be of some thickness more, than what I believe a lot of people, (including myself) would like it to be. But hopefully not too much. Anyway, I wanted to get some opinions so I could know what my limits were before I sat down to start the actual design. Thanks guys :)

I think the shape of the handle makes a little bit of difference. A lot of knives such as the Adamas are relatively flat sided, other knives such as the ZT 0561 are a little bit rounded. I think if the handles are a bit rounded you can tolerate more total thickness. In my tight jeans, a thick flat sized knife is more noticeable because the material pulls against the sharp edges at the edges of the scales.

Idk, I think .125 is my limit, but I've never measured all my stock thicknesses. I have a set of calipers too.

Things that are stupid-thick, automatically make my head hurt though:o

Come to think of it, while they might be a nicer carry, there are popular knives out there that are too THIN for me to handle well.

I was in a store yesterday handling a stainless Spyderco Police and between it being slick and thin, opening it was a pain in the....even though I"m sure it had a quality pivot action. A K'shaw Leek is about the thinnest case I can comfortably handle.

Guess my fat fingers are why I tend toward the more substantial knives. Also the only reason I leave a clip on a folder.

Wow! Why didn't he just go full scandi if he's going to have such a steep and shallow saber grind?

I don't know the thickness of a ZT 0200 but it's as thick as I want to carry. Also having the scales rough instead of smooth does nothing to help its carry ability.

I EDC'd a BK2 for a while, but I don't think it counts because it wasn't in my pocket :D

As far as large folders taking up pocket realestate, I used to EDC a CS Spartan. I'll still drop it in my pocket depending on where I'm going. The blade is 4mm thick.

These are all 0.450" (+/- 0.010")...AVO, large Sebbie, Spydie Slysz Bowie, Zaan. I believe in these folders.

I prefer thicker folders as I find they tend to be more comfortable in use. The thickest I usually carry is an Adamas, but I don't think I would have an issue carrying something thicker. There's certainly an upper limit, but I haven't hit it yet.
