What is the hardest steel to sharpen?

Rex 121 at 68HRC.
Mostly because the steel structure is quite different than what I'm used too. But even then on a diamond plate it sharpens up nicely. Can get it to shave all day long.

Z-Tuff can be pretty odd to sharpen too. Takes FOREVER to get the burr off. The extreme toughness makes it challenging, but once it pops off its reallllllly nice.

Was thinking as hardest of materials ,metals for a knife blade.Impressive cutting abilities though.

ATS34 always stymies me.
It doesn't feel right.
It sort of - smears - is the best way I can describe it.

Man. I purchased a blemished Buck folder in ATS34 from a guy at the gunshow. Got a heck of a deal on it. I never could get a good edge on it. Some strange stuff. Knife went into a drawer to never see light of day again.

Whatever crap steel my buddy's restaurant supply store kitchen knives are made of. Stuff is so soft, it just seems to smear and break off instead of forming an actual apex.

It used to be D2 and S35VN, but then I bought a set of DMT plates. Now I laugh at Maxamet.
