What is the "Masterpiece" model for each brands?

SanRenMu: 710, now known as the 7010.
Enlan: EM-1

I seriously don't get the appeal of the 710 or 7010 by the way. Owned one, didn't see anything special about it. And SanRenMu has so many models in their entire lineup, many of which look and feel better than the 7010.

Probably the truest statement in this thread. A masterpiece is an artist's or craftsman's best piece of work, most of those mentioned are mass produced products that come nowhere near being able to meet that definition. Going further, if one uses the traditional definition of masterpiece, it would be the sole item used to mark that maker as a "Master". It would be judged by those who hold that rating to be among the very best produced, or capable of being produced.

I highly recommend you take the time to go look at the knifes set out by the custom makers in hopes of being good enough to gain them the coveted right to mark their work as being made by a master cutler.
Well in that case only customs should be considered, no? I have none, nor have handled one. So I'd be left out[emoji25] But I want to talk about knives too!

Oh, and what about a "production masterpiece"? Meaning the finest, most useful, or whatever an individual thinks is a masterpiece, that could be in production.

It has already been established that a masterpiece is a matter of opinion. For example, the endura which has been mentioned a few times, is a non fancy, no frills production knife. I'm sure you don't find it a masterpiece. However, from a production standpoint, it is a high quality cutting tool available at a good price to the masses. One might find that more impressive than an extremely expensive, gold bolstered showpiece. I particularly think a production knife CAN be considered a masterpiece.

Not true. There is a dictionary definition for the word "masterpiece", and there's a reason there is one; "production masterpiece" has no definition.

A masterpiece of production is the highest level possible. It may change as tools and techniques become available, but at the time it's judged, it's the ultimate. And the judging is done by peers, not the general public. Ask yourself this, if you were to ask any of the owners of the companies out there what their masterpiece was, what would they answer?

The best knife made by a production company is not a masterpiece. Sal Glasser is not John White. Ernest Emerson is not Bob Loveless. One can (or could) make a masterpiece, the other can't.

Talk knives all you want; I encourage it. But try to use proper terminology.

Kershaw - Tilt or Ruby
ZT - 0777 (original followed by the alternate versions)
Leatherman - 30th anniversary Charge

I don't really dig much other brands.

I can't speak for other companies, however, if I were to choose the best from the company that I admire, I'd choose specific models from Benchmade's Gold Class offerings..

My Examples:

Plain Jane 531

Gold Class 531-132

Another example of a step up over the regular production 940:

Gold Class 940-121

I felt a major disturbance in the economy... It was as if millions of bank accounts cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced...

I'll throw my opinion about folders in the mix:
Spyderco - Tie Manix 2 and Paramilitary 2 (Native 5 LW is not far behind)
Buck - Marksman (this might be sacrilegious but it is a great knife)
Benchmade - 551-1 (great upgrades) although this may change if the 928 Proxy ever ships. Come on Benchmade! Hurry up!
Kershaw - Launch 3 OD S53vn
Cold Steel - New model American Lawman (OD CTS XHP)
Lionsteel - TRE G-10
Ontario - Rat Model 1 (Utilitac II is close)
Byrd - Hawkbill serrated FRN

BM - 940
Spyderco - PM2
RHK - XM-18 3.5 Spanto
CRK - Seb. 21
Strider - SnG
MKT - Praetorian T
ZT - 056X

I am interpreting "masterpiece" as the knife to own from the manufactures I listed.....

Cold steels are crap but... they have a few peanuts in there lol
Some are complete trash only one step above a gas station knife
And some are ok example I have beat the crap out of a Natchez bowie (not a san.mai) and for what I did to it it has preformed well enough to earn a spot.

But where it falls short is the feel the handle is twisted off axis and the balance is too blade heavy for a "fighting" bowie that said I might try to give it a re-profiled handle and skinny the blade up and make it flow better and it would be a nice bowie.

Well, I never knew before that the word "masterpiece" reversed only for custom knife maker. Porsche 911 GT3 RS is considered to be Porsche's masterpiece. I don't really think it is even a truely custom car since anyone can bought it if they have money...

I think it is finally the matter of opinion.
