A convex edge can hold up longer for some steel types. If you watch some of the videos on Cedric Ada he has done a test between convex and v grinds and some steel for v grind lasts longer. However the convex edge can often times still cut, it just looses its initial sharpness, it can't paper cut anymore if that makes sense. While a v grind will just go dull and not cut any more. At least from the testing he's done.I know convex edges are supposed to last longer, what about a chisel edge, would that make any difference? I know a microbevel can make a huge difference.
This changes with different steel. It seems some steel is much better with a convex while the higher carbide steels prefer v grind. Then again this could be due to a more course grind on the v edge vs the more smooth edge on the convex for those higher edge retention steels. Need more data points. U don't have all the answers.
Micro bevels are very good idea on these high carbide brittle steel types also. They will help prevent chipping.
What you cut also changes the edge retention of that steel depending on all the other variables/variations too.
