What is the right way to pronounce patina?

At the risk of sounding like an idiot. Could someone tell me how the word Tidioute is pronounced?

Wondered that myself and found this:
"Tidioute” (pronounced tiddy-oot) is an Iroquois (Seneca) Indian word meaning 'protrusion of land', relating to the feature that the Allegheny River makes a sharp bend at this site, creating a near-peninsula within the river valley.

Thanks Thomason. I was pronouncing the second syllable with a short "i" sound and the last as more of an "out" soound. :p

Tidioute is pronounced like a southern Ontarian (pronounce THAT) telling you of Janice Jackson's Superbowl exploits a while back!

My great uncle had a camp on the Allegheny River near Tidioute. I always loved that name and that camp.

Since I live about 10 minutes from Camillus, NY I've learned how to pronounce that one too! :D

While we are (hilariously) pronouncing the names of knife brands/companies, can someone PLEASE tell me the definitive pronunciation of;

"Or that green tint that happens to copper and bronze/s!"

verdegris, with a french accent.

You learn something new everyday. I always said "lag-ee-ole". (Laguiole)

So, I'm almost afraid to ask - how do you pronounce "Opinel"? I have always said "oh-pin-ell".

thx - cpr

ps - I asked my dad again, and he doesn't remember ever telling me about "patina". That figures. He does remember me pronouncing the Sioux indians the "Sigh-oucks" indians. (I'll never live that one down.)

I just found a pronunciation site, with sound! They put a k sound in front of the yole.

"la-kyole". Maybe a regional difference??
