What is the worst thing that's ever happened to your knife?

Me, on the belt sander.
Broke a RTAC in half, they sent me a new one no questions asked.
I gave it to my eleven year old son.

In my later years I found them in a drawer full of step moms vibrating arsenal.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever used your knives for?
Mine would have to be last night when my wife used my 51 Morpho as a self pleasure device without my consent.
Had to soak it in water and then wipe it down in Rem oil afterwards.
What kind of strange things have you or your loved ones done with your knives?

Hahahaha.

Coworker borrowed my Kershaw Skyline, which was my first pocket knife, to use for "utility". He returns it to me with minimal damage, a few scratches on the finish and it was a tad dull, so I think nothing of it and go home. That night I went to sharpen it on my crappy 14 dollar sharpener, and noticed it smelled a bit weird, the pivot stuck a little when I opened it, it wouldn't flip out all the way with 100% certainty like it used to. So I took it apart to check it out, and BAM. He was using it to cut raw meats since he works in the deli, some of the blood got in the pivot area and dried up. Absolutely disgusting, took me a while to get it entirely cleaned out, smell and all.

Lent my friend my Benchmade Mini-Grip. He came back empty handed with a smirk that basically said,"I don't care." I should've slapped him silly. . .

for whatever reason I had my spyderco dragonfly clipped to the pocket of my swim trunks. even rust resistant VG-10 steel couldn't stand up to simmering away in chlorinated water for over an hour before being put away wet

Had a SAK Alox Soldier '08 (last year of the Alox one) stolen out of my desk drawer at work. The other one was a CRKT something or other that a coworker I was fishing with flung into the Mississippi after he dropped it and tried to catch it. At least he ended up having to get his hand stitched shut after that stunt. :D

My dad lost the whale bone folder I gave him. Still waiting for it to show up one day.

Left my first real knife on my bumper after using it to cut a water bottle to hold some flowers I picked for my wife. No more flower picking for me!

The finest machete I have made so far was used to clear overgrowth near a concrete foundation today...it's destroyed. Had a leatherman thrown in the trash...still does not compare to post #2. Not even close. Sorry, Jack.

Thanks Arakiel, still hurts 18 years later, hard even to think about it. Sorry to hear about your machete, and to all you other guys, some sad tales here.

I received a SAK from a friend when i was 12. I've lost that knife countless times. It resurfaces every few years then i lose it again.

I recently used my beater Native to remove some stapples. I put small dents in the blade.

My mom would hide/confiscate my items also if i left then laying around.

I never lend out my stuff, too many horror stories.

I broke tip of ontario sp10 when trying to pry some bark. :( Grinded down by hand with sand paper so I got a new tip. :) Took lots of time.

Once, while me and my friends got to this guy's summer cottage he found out when we were getting out of the car that he had forgotten the key home. I was the only one with a knife or any other tool. So he used my knife, a rather nice "puukko" to try to break in the cottage. Of course he snapped the blade, but what remained of the blade was now stubby and rigid enough to force one window open. He managed to break window glass in the process. I still used what remained of the blade to cut open sausage package, so all was not lost.

Alcohol had a lot to do with this whole thing.

Dropped a Schrade X something on a wood pallet and it snapped about an inch and a half of blade.

Had two cops in San Diego rob me of over two dozen knives I had in my trunk in a moving box. Many of them I had owned since I was 5-8 years old kid that were gifts from family on birthdays and Christmas.

Friend ask if he could have my knife for a moment, i say yes and he start to use it as a ¤&¤%&¤% screwdriver, hell i was close to punch him in the face. Next time ask for the multitool you F***nut!

Years ago, I had a nice stag-handled fixed blade that had my name engraved on it stolen out of my saddlebags by a coworker while the two of us were riding fence in Arizona - after the guy disappeared later that summer we found out he was a fugitive from California with a murder warrent out on him. For a while I worried that he might leave the knife with my name on it at the scene of some future crime. . .

Luckily my friends know how much I care for my knives so they only use them when I'm around, and never for anything dumb. I however ruined a few tips of $40-50 knives when I first got a Work Sharp, it frustrated me so much that I pretty much immediately sold it in fear I would ruin more. Sort of regret that decision now.

I traded my favorite knife, an emerson Mini CQC-15, to a buddhist for a playstation and a bunch of games. True story.

In a lengthy discussion, we ended on the topic of worldly possessions and after many bourbons, I thought it would be a good idea to trade my favorite worldly possession for a playstation. He was trying to free himself of all his selfish things and was interested to alleviate another person, in trade, of their selfish things.

It felt good for about a week... then regret :(

Wow, great stories. I'm never going to lend any of my knives to a friend or coworker unless I think that they're worthy of it and won't destroy the knife.

I was on a dock with my first buck 301 cutting up a sunfish for bait, placed it down and "KERPLUNK" right between where two of the boards mated together.
