What is the worst thing that's ever happened to your knife?

My very first knife, which I carried every single day for years... I dropped it, and watched in horror as it fell between the slats of the Ventura pier. I watched it all the way to the surface of the sea. It still makes me sad thinking about it.

Slipped out of the pocket, went right into the john immediately after an unfortunate "evacuation" after a gut-truck burrito. Hadn't flushed yet. :barf:

Worst thing... lost it! Best thing... found it!

I lost a cell phone in a toilet once. It is actually quite a common fate for cell phones that are replaced. Since it has happened, I guard against such things now.

I had multiple knives, a screwdriver, bottle opener, etc. sitting out on the table while we were watching TV. My friend, without asking, grabbed my thinnest knife, my brand new Nemesis MANX, and starting attempting to pry the safety ring off a Bic lighter. Completely f'd up the tip but I did my best to keep my cool. Then he got to see my sharpening skills in action and then payed me to sharpen his knife the next day, so all in all not the worst thing ever but watching it happen was like watching someone start a fire with a $100 bill....yes $100 bill works as kindling, but there are much better options.

Lost a couple and had one stolen.

But after reading some of the other posts in this thread, I don't feel bad at all.

I've been lucky so far, in that all the bad things that have happened to my knives have been my fault. That doesn't make it feel any less painful, when you've lost a Mnandi. At least it's a lesson learned, and I won't make the same mistakes over.

Truely the biggest fear I have (as it relates to my knives) is that someone will break into my house and steal my precious toys.

As it is, I've miss-placed a Mnandi and a Spyderco Kopa gold-lip pearl. I have a small fixed blade (Lone Wolf Trail Mate) that keeps dropping out of the loose sheath, and chipping the blade and tip up (3 times, so far). I once left a Microtech Scarab outside for a week, and it rained one night. Luckily a dose of WD-40, and no issues.

was attacked and mugged. Got my small Sebenza and two Burger customs, dropped my Sebenza Insingo from 3m working on a roof. Broke a tip...can't think of anything right now.

Stupid roommate asks for a can opener. I hand him my leatherman. He uses the serrated blade to cut the top off the can. I guess i really needed to hold his hand and teach him about and how to use the can opener tool. My fault for thinking he was a grade above total dumbass.

Left a Case and a Buck at my my dad's shop, to teach me a lesson my dad/step mom took them to prove I wasn't responsible enough to own knives. In my later years I found them in a drawer full of step moms vibrating arsenal. All those years they really had me fooled..... I wish somebody would have really stole em Christmas is still awkward. :(
:barf:

I dropped my William Henry in a parking lot..... Still makes me cringe to think about the sound it made. But the worst was losing my sebenza. I will leave my knife that I carried that day on the counter, and my daughter was developing a habit of picking them up. (4 at the time) she would open them, not be able to close them, and then hide them because she knew not to touch them. I started to be more careful, but one day left my sebenza on the counter and was working in the yard. Came in and it was gone. I went over to her and asked her if she had picked it up, she said no. Later that night, she asked me if I will always love her......and then told me what she had done.
She had picked it up and couldn't close it. Rather than tell me or my wife, she threw it away. It was trash day, I had taken the trash out personally that afternoon and handed it to the garbage man!

Jesus. These are all terrible stories. Worst that happened to me was I got a cheapie folder confiscated from the rent-a-cops at school.

Oh no!! I've got a three year old but she knows what da da's pocket knife and phone are and she knows not to touch my phone, even though she treats her moms and grandmas phones like her personal entertainment devices (i suppose because they let her) she doesn't go touching my para 2 but then its clipped in my pocket or on a high nightstand.

I guess a four year old throwing away a sebenza would be classified as 'hard use' and not covered under warranty.

I would have cried :(

Ahhh man that has to suck.

Yes, I was beside myself:( she is now starting to appreciate knives, in fact I bought her her first a few weeks ago. This is a great thing to hold over her head......at least that is my glass half full look at it
